Had a look at these: Marion Williams - nope, found a photo, not the one Helen Reddy - nope, she's white!! Lena Horne - not dead Joan Armatrading - not dead Dinah Washington - had to look closely at this one, because she has the right look.....but both born and died too early Patti LaBelle - another match for looks, but she's alive Little Ester seems to be a racehorse!! lol (see further down, though) Dee Dee Sharpe - not dead Queen Latifah - too young Denise Williams - too young and thin! Randy Crawford (who I thought was a bloke!) - too young and thin Neneh Cherry - alive Gloria Jones - too tall and I think she is still alive Peggy Lee - too white! Marion Williams died in July 1994 of diabetes. She looks a bit like the woman you're describing. There's also a Mattie Moss Clark, but I don't think she ever came to England. PS - Ella Fitzgerald died in 1996.
