Born and bred in Bridlington, met and married a lad from Berkshire where I live - that National Service has a lot to answer for! Still feel Brid is my home though and have asked 'em to scatter my ashes off Flamborough Head.

I too am proud to be a Yorkshire lass! Born and bred in Bridlington, E. Yorks. now living in Lincolnshire, but I still call Yorkshire 'home', the people are much friendlier there! Jean

MaryfromItaly Report 15 Jul 2006 21:02

I was born and bred in the Midlands, but I moved to Halifax later, and lived there for 10 years. Strangely enough, when I started researching the Australian side of my family recently, I found out that my great-grandfather came from Bradford. I've been there loads of times, and I had no idea I had roots there.

Huia, Hunslet and Holbeck areas of Leeds are where most of my ancestors were from (and Ireland). LL

Hi Mary, So as your name suggests..Do you live in Italy now? Bradford is not far from where I live and is famouse and infamous for a variety of reasons...All of which I am sure you will know. LL

MaryfromItaly

MaryfromItaly Report 15 Jul 2006 21:49

Yes, I've been in Italy since 1982. I used to work at Halifax Town Hall, back in the early Seventies. Later on I worked in Hebden Bridge. My great-grandfather and his family lived in the Calverley area before emigrating to Australia. His ancestors were from Kildwick, which I shall have to visit next time I'm in the UK.
