I think they may have thought it wise ( prudent ) to invite other faiths for fear of this kind of backlash.............lol

Guinevere Report 12 Jul 2006 15:20

The Muslims have invited others to join them as long as they respect 'the rules of the day.' I still don't see a problem. Gwynne

sorry Hal not with you - why should they what?

Merlin

Merlin Report 12 Jul 2006 15:13

Zoe, Why Should they? Surely thats what The Human Rights Act is all about. Equality for all whatever where-ever. Not when it.s just convenient. Hal.

Zoe

Zoe Report 12 Jul 2006 15:12

but it IS a Muslim event - they've hired the place privately. They are welcoming those of other faiths to go along along and learn about their culture if they wish to - with the full knowledge that certain things will be restricted because thats the way the wish THEIR event to be

BUT Catherine............ These people are hiring it out as a PRIVATE FUNCTION........its a bit like a village hall for a wedding but also half the hall is being used as a kids birthday party and NEITHER Hirer can tell the other what colour theme to have ......... it's just not cricket ....... Its their party and they'll do whatever they please , they paid their money . As Gwynne has already said she hires out a hall for her drama classes and she make the rules.......and rightly so !!

I got married on a very hot day and I'd have been miffed if any of the guests had turned up in shorts. Fortunately all my friends and family have very good manners and wouldn't have dreamed of doing so. Gwynne

What a fascinating thread. It seems in our FREE EQUAL DEMOCRATIC country we're not allowed to book a private function if we're Muslim?? Surely you don't object people? Why such outrage? Muslims do integrate very well into our society ( mostly) Did you know that at least 2 long weekends are hired out for Jehovah's Witnesses to gather and socialise at Twickenham Rugby ground? How do you feel about this? ......... no different I suspect to any other PRIVATE FUNCTION....... I agree with Zoe, David & Gwynne.......Muslims, Jews, J. W's whatever religion race or creed it's no problem .......hope they have a wonderful day out the lot of them. Now david Owen ..pet...... when & where is the Catholics Bricklayers Widow function? I'd simply love to go LOL

Hal Then perhaps they can visit the park on one of the 364 days of the year they don't serve Halal meat

Rachel

Rachel Report 12 Jul 2006 14:52

That doesn't bear thinking about!!!!

Merlin

Merlin Report 12 Jul 2006 14:51

One other small point,'Halal Food', Is,nt that where they Butcher the animals by cutting their throats and bleeding them to death?. What if people of other faiths objected to that way of food preparation? Hal.

Zoe Report 12 Jul 2006 14:49

Rachel - nude riding may contravene the 'no loose objects' rule

Rachel

Rachel Report 12 Jul 2006 14:48

Perhaps then there are some advantages to riding in the nude!!!!!

Well I think it would be a day worth seeing,I love to see other cultures. We just might learn a few things if we were open minded enough to look:-))
