Hi Catherine, The venue is booked by the Muslim group for a private function. If they have spent that amount of money then they have the right to make the rules, as far as I can see. Just like any group who book a venue for any other sort of function. When I book a venue for my Youth Theatre group I make the rules. If the couple don't like it then they should take it up with Alton Towers not the group who have booked it. Personally, I'd rather French Kiss a llama than go to Alton Towers at any time. Gwynne

All these days focused at specific groups who perhaps may not visit the park normally............................................................ Mmm, perhaps their thinking is more in tune with the potential revenue than anything else.

Having read all this and bearing in mind the couple booked before the Islamic Group ( £5000.00.) paid upfront,It seems Alton Towers are at fault being greedy. One other thing though,Would this be allowed to happen in 'Iran'? would Other Faiths be allowed to dictate what the Muslim Majority Could and Could not do?. I think Not. Hal.

Having just rung the Isamic Leisure company who are organising this event... they tell me that non.muslims are allowed...they will be able to buy other types of food other than theirs but there will not be sales of alcohol that day.... Remains to be seen what kind of day it turns out to be....so if anyone wants tickets... the Islamic Leisure site are taking bookings online..... Me... think I would rather have a good dinner.... Anne :) By the way... deleted previous posts.. it was me!!

Not all muslim women dress this way, some do dress western but wear a scalf to cover their heads. I dont mean short skirts and 6in heelslol but modestly:-))

Perhaps then there are some advantages to riding in the nude!!!!!

Zoe

Zoe Report 12 Jul 2006 14:49

Rachel - nude riding may contravene the 'no loose objects' rule

One other small point,'Halal Food', Is,nt that where they Butcher the animals by cutting their throats and bleeding them to death?. What if people of other faiths objected to that way of food preparation? Hal.

Rachel

Rachel Report 12 Jul 2006 14:52

That doesn't bear thinking about!!!!

Zoe

Zoe Report 12 Jul 2006 14:53

Hal Then perhaps they can visit the park on one of the 364 days of the year they don't serve Halal meat

What a fascinating thread. It seems in our FREE EQUAL DEMOCRATIC country we're not allowed to book a private function if we're Muslim?? Surely you don't object people? Why such outrage? Muslims do integrate very well into our society ( mostly) Did you know that at least 2 long weekends are hired out for Jehovah's Witnesses to gather and socialise at Twickenham Rugby ground? How do you feel about this? ......... no different I suspect to any other PRIVATE FUNCTION....... I agree with Zoe, David & Gwynne.......Muslims, Jews, J. W's whatever religion race or creed it's no problem .......hope they have a wonderful day out the lot of them. Now david Owen ..pet...... when & where is the Catholics Bricklayers Widow function? I'd simply love to go LOL
