I'll drive. I can do that. Just as long as there's not dodgy manouvers there'll be no probs.

Here you go Daniel....just for you....and to make sure you know it's the road that's the problem here not Polly's driving!!! THE 8-3-0 (Ian McCalman) He was driving up to Mallaig, Glenfinnan by Loch Shiel, Heading for Lochailort, content behind the wheel, The road was getting narrower... the sign said slow, It’s the Highland daily dodgems, it’s the 8-3-0. There is a natural assumption that ‘A’ roads are wide, Enough to take a car... and one the other side, Tourist information, will never, never tell, It’s like driving through heaven on a road made for hell. Cos it’s a single track, you can’t turn back, The stories are all the same, of the tourists leaving Corpach, Never seen again... Don’t go, on the 8-3-0. There’s a joke in the highlands, it’s called a ‘passing place’, Where French stay for chips... and English stay for days and days and days, When lorries lose control... you’ve got one last wish, “Don’t let me die under 20 tons of fish”. Cos it’s a single track, you can’t turn back, A nightmare without end, Eyes ahead, ‘cos Nigel Mansell’s waiting round the bend... Don’t go, on the 8-3-0. Whoever called this road a road was telling little lies The 8-3-O’s a sheep-track in very thin disguise, Italian caravanettes, driving on the right, Meeting Wallace Arnold buses in the middle of the night. Of the man that’s stopping progress, a theory’s going around, That he owns the biggest breakers yard this side of Mallaig town, You can see him in the gloaming, towing wrecks from where they lie, And he turns them into girders for the bridge across to Skye. And it’s a single track, he’s in Mallaig and now he feels no pain, He’s dumped his car; he’s in the bar he’s steaming back by train... on a single track, you can’t turn back The moral’s very plain, it’s grand to visit Mallaig... but it’s safer by MacBraynes, Don’t go on the 8-3-0, Don’t go on the 8-3-0, Don’t go on the 8-3-0. Sandra B Report 9 Aug 2006 15:34

Looking forward to it. Just checking the trains now, not many from Glasgow to Fort William, looks like the 8.20 from Queen Street which gets in at 1202, so will pick Lemon and the boy up from there and scare them with my driving to Glenfinnan..

Hi all.........just had confirmation email from GHH to say we're booked into the drawing room on the 29th August for approx. 12 people but that can be altered easily if more or less people wana go...........I have to say I'm really looking forward to the mini-meet now......not that I wasn't before but now it's booked and everything!!! Looking forward to meeting you all.........know Polly already but that's easy we only live 6 miles apart but it'd be nice to finally put faces to names and do we all look like the other's imagine???!!!! RDA.x.

That's not hard giving your age!! LOL LOL *runs away before gets slap round lugs* Sorry Polly me only joking wifie......!!!! Let me know what you think and get back to me...will try and get hubby out for dinner too but he's stuck with ferries and often gets held up......I will try!!! RDA.x.

Sandra B Report 8 Aug 2006 15:29

Flipping confusing me now !!!

JanJan78

JanJan78 Report 8 Aug 2006 15:28

That's the one next door to the cabin!!! Used to be called the Central....but now is called the Steam Inn.......as in you can steam here by train or ferry etc and you'll be steamin' when you leave here!!! TRUE!!! Cornerstone is good too (have to say that as one of hubby's cousins is part owner/chef!).....not had a meal in the Fish Market since hubby's relatives passed it on to new people........not boycotting it just not had the time!!! Not sure how The Marine Hotel is now it has been bought over by Swallow hotels....will ask around......The West Highland's good anyway but there won't be that many of us to need a hotel......or do you think it'd be easier??? When you're booking or enquiring remember to drop the hint about Gaynor Bear and they may chuck in a discount for a wee bit publicity!!! Good grief what am I like!!! Trying to get freebies now!!! LOL LOL RDA.x.

Sandra B

Sandra B Report 8 Aug 2006 15:21

Pussy cat............take trainers of flat shoes as you'll wana see the view from the top of the monument....to die for....will have oxygen standing by for the unfit among us...ME FIRST!!!!! There is steps all the way up inside it............it's the monument that was built to signify the raising of the standard in 1745 by Bonnie Prince Charlie and his motly crew on there way to Culloden battlefield...............good grief I don't know where all that came from....thought I slept through history class in school LOL LOL but hey looks like I remembered something!! Must go and tell Mr.Morton his time wasn't wasted on me after all...!!!! I really cannot express what a fabby place we are going for the mini-meet.....you'll all love it!!! Ok my job's done Polly.....you're organising the evening meal for those staying on!!! I will say that the I'D reccomend The Steam Inn (aka the central to locals!) mainly because the food is good and it's not too cramped.....or the cornerstone but that would need booked if there was a group of us......I'm showing loyalty to Scott etc (used to work for him!) and have not really been to the Cabin since they left. Think I may try and make some tablet for those on the meet to take away......especially for Lemon!!!! RDA.x.

JanJan78 Report 8 Aug 2006 14:48

We could eat out if Gaynor Bear will still be with us......get a bit more publicity....gain a few more pennies for the charity??? I am gona email GHH back and confirm it and then give details of numbers etc the week before....does that sound ok to you Polly??? For all those who haven't seen where we're going here's the web address again and you know about removing the brackets so I'll not need to remind you!! JanJan78

JanJan78 Report 8 Aug 2006 14:40

SORTED!!!! Got through eventually and have received a confirmation email...............but here's the best bit...........they are not charging us for the room!!!! It would normally be £50+ but because Gaynor Bear is there and what she signifies......we get it free!! Woohoo!!! Ok this is exactly what is enclosed in the email: 'I can offer you tea/coffee on arrival at £1.50 per person and maybe a small finger buffet lunch either in the drawing room or hall or bar (let me know what would be best) with Soup/ Sandwiches/filled Savoury Tartlets/Fruit/Scones/ Tea/Coffee at a special rate of £7.50 per person so the whole thing would be £9 per person' This sounds ideal for what we need and would like to reply to them giving them our 'ok' for it........it will be held in the drawing room which has a fire if I remember correctly!! So we can be snug and cosy if the weather's miserable :-(( They are thrilled we've picked them to hold the meeting and have Gaynor Bear there and no problem having press.....hence them not charging for the room and also a VERY good discount on the buffet!!! Dad's contacts come in handy after all.....!!! Could everyone please let me know what they think and we'd need final numbers by the Thursday before the meet so that'd be 24th...........I'm getting excited now!! :-))))) RDA.x.
