may i just say something at this point, everytime a member gets suspended it starts finger pointing.at the end of the day genes would not and could not suspend anyone if there was no reason.members on both sides so to speak have been suspended at one time or another.its not nice ,i agree, but there are ways of saying what you want without putting yourself in that position to be suspended.when the big upset happened recently,i came home from work to see total mayhem, members suspended, and a huge uproar.to this day i have know idea of all the members suspended.all i could do was sit and look in disbelief.i dont know the reasons why all members suspended were suspended.but i do know the finger was pointing in my direction, well you got that wrong. this far down the line i dont beat myself up about it,i just want peace.like many.

Buffalo if you could please explain my sweeping statement, I would be happy to clarify it? I am sorry I don't understand where I made a sweeping statement? I do respect your freedom of speech and I am so glad you respect mine. And I don't believe anyone should stop posting either so we are in agreement there. David. I wonder why you are not asking Buffalo the same question?

Well said Gillian, very well put. Faith, we all have a right to an opinion, freedom of speech is one of the most treasured things we were given in Britain. I respect yours, respect mine, and please don't make sweeping statements, I always believed in turn the other cheek. But too many nice people were hurt possibly on both sides, but many tryed hard not to take a side and be fair as they watched their board aswell as yours be torn apart for months relentlessly. Even the most patient and innofensive people had enough. Why should people stop posting here just because some would rather they did not? Things can be replaced, people can not.

Bufalo I wasn't tarring everyone from the 'other' site with the same brush, not at all. Only those 'nice' ones I saw displaying a particularly nasty side on a public world wide site. I was amazed at the hypocrisy to be honest, as what they were doing there is what I have seen them slate others for here.

Gwynne and Gillian, I echo your sentiments. As this is a board for debate/opinions, I suggest that we keep it at that. :-)

Gillian, I'm sure that most of the members who posted on here a lot, (maybe yourself in fact) are now on a different website. Good luck to you all I say, I hope you have many pleasurable hours on there, BUT, please don't come back onto GR and try to drag the site down. It is unfair and disrespectful to do that to the many members left on here. G

I have seen some people on this thread saying that 'something is missing' or 'it's boring now'. So why on earth bother coming on anymore then??? There is more to GR than the General Board, a lot of people find it helpful for GENEALOGY too, lol. More new names than ever are helping out on Records and Tips now and I find that so positive. If you are missing the social aspect of the General Board then there are many sites out there that cater for that. I'm getting a bit tired of people whinging about this site, I can't see the point of going round and round in circles moaning about whats missing, GR is a great site and long may it continue!

Just a suggestion but perhaps instead of discussing what we do or do not think of the current state of the boards, we should all be making a concerted effort to make them what we want. Discussing what some perceive as 'quiet' or 'boring' can only have a negative effect when we could be channelling our energies into building on what we have already and making this a great, fun and informative place to be. Let's not dwell on what is or has been but instead work at what might (and, I believe, can) be.

I was in London all day yesterday and I'm quite miffed to be told the site is friendlier when I'm not around. I've made some wonderful friends on these boards, some of whom are no longer allowed to post for a while. The boards are a lot quieter for sure but more friendly? I don't think so. I like to think all the threads I've posted are friendly and honest. It would be lovely to get back to the fun and friendly days - maybe in 7 weeks or so. Gwynne

Good on you Buffalo It is people that count, and we all matter. I just want to say that if you really think someone is stirring, don't respond. If we argue back it makes them feel good. There was a thread recently about being a thread killer. Ignoring a bully is the way to get rid of them. LOTS AND LOTS OF LOVE AND HUGS (shouts down internet) Lynda x

Not my sentiments at all Faith. It is never right to be nasty, you can not tar everyone with the same brush. You can replace things, not people. Have a good day.

Faith

Faith Report 16 Sep 2006 14:09

I have seen 'nice' people on a different site say vile things, the same things other 'horrible' people have been slated for previously. Six of one half a dozen of the other.

Unknown Report 16 Sep 2006 14:07

I don't care about truth and lies I care about people, as I will never know who did what to who and to be honest don't think the truth is ever going to be known. But too many innocents got caught up in what ever went on and were banished for very little, does that not matter or am I just an idealist? Yes there are two sides to every story in life, but some of these people never ever featured in either story. You can replace things not people. I apologise to the lady who started this thread, if I am out of order.

i think if people believe what they hear without checking the facts then it becomes a problem.as i said there was truth and lies ,but this is not my thread and i have more respect for the person whose thread it is.

Yoo-hoo! I have to add my five penn'orth here. I agree with most of you, disagree with a few, but hey, that's what this is all about. I very much agree, though, with Elaine and Aileen, with a bit of Jeanette as well! lol Positive with a little bit of negative is my reply. :-)
