Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord! Unnumbered blessings give my spirit voice Tender to me the promise of His word In God my Saviour shall my heart rejoice Tell out, my soul, the greatness of His name! Make known His might, the deeds His arm has done His mercy sure, from age to age the same His holy name-the Lord, the mighty One Tell out, my soul, the greatness of His might! Powers and dominions lay their glory by Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight The hungry fed, the humble lifted high Tell out, my soul, the glories of His word! Firm is His promise, and His mercy sure Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord To children's children and forever more! |

Here we come a-wassailing among the leaves so green; Here we come a-wandering, so fair to be seen. Love and joy come to you, and to you our wassail, too. And God bless you and send you a Happy New Year And God bless you and send you a Happy New Year We are not daily beggars that beg from door to door; But we are neighbours' children whom you have seen before. Refrain God bless the master of this house, likewise the mistress, too; And all the little children that round the table go. Refrain |

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, Just like the ones I used to know, Where the treetops glisten And children listen To hear sleigh bells in the snow. I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, With every Christmas card I write, May your days be merry and bright, And may all your Christmases be white. |

Let there be peace on earth And let it begin with me. Let there be peace on earth The peace that was meant to be. With God as our father Brothers all are we. Let me walk with my brother In perfect harmony. Let peace begin with me Let this be the moment now. With every step i take Let this be my solemn vow. To take each moment And live each moment With peace eternally. Let there be peace on earth, And let it begin with me. |

Long time ago in Bethlehem, So the Holy Bible say, Mary's boy child, Jesus Christ, Was born on Christmas day, Hark, now hear the angels sing, A newborn King today, And man will live forevermore, Because of Christmas day. Trumpets sound and angels sing, Listen to what they say, That man will live forevermore, Because of Christmas day. Hark, now hear the angels sing, A newborn King today, And man will live forevermore, Because of Christmas day. While shepherds watched their flocks by night, They saw a bright new shining star, They heard a choir sing a song, The music seemed to come from afar, Now, Joseph and his wife, Mary, Come to Bethlehem that night, They found no place to bear her child, Not a single room was in sight. By and by, they find a little nook, In a stable all forlorn, And in a manger cold and dark, Mary's little Boy was born! |

How far is it to Bethlehem? Not very far. Shall we find the stable room lit by a star? Can we see the little child, is he within? If we lift the wooden latch may we go in? May we stroke the creatures there, ox, ass, or sheep? May we peep like them and see Jesus asleep? If we touch his tiny hand, will he awake? Will he know we've come so far just for his sake? Great kings have precious gifts, and we have naught, little smiles and little tears are all we brought. For all weary children Mary must weep, then here, on his bed of straw sleep, children, sleep. God is his mother's arms, babes in the byre, they sleep as the sleep who find their heart's desire. |

The holly and the ivy, When they are both full grown, Of all trees that are in the wood, The holly bears the crown: O, the rising of the sun, And the running of the deer The playing of the merry organ, Sweet singing in the choir. The holly bears a blossom, As white as lily flow'r, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, To be our dear Saviour: Refrain The holly bears a berry, As red as any blood, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, To do poor sinners good: Refrain The holly bears a prickle, As sharp as any thorn, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, On Christmas Day in the morn: Refrain The holly bears a bark, As bitter as the gall, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, For to redeem us all: Refrain The holly and the ivy, When they are both full grown, Of all trees that are in the wood, The holly bears the crown: Refrain |

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening, In the lane, snow is glistening A beautiful sight, We're happy tonight. Walking in a winter wonderland. Gone away is the bluebird, Here to stay is a new bird He sings a love song, As we go along, Walking in a winter wonderland. In the meadow we can build a snowman, Then pretend that he is Parson Brown He'll say: Are you married? We'll say: No man, But you can do the job When you're in town. Later on, we'll conspire, As we dream by the fire To face unafraid, The plans that we've made, Walking in a winter wonderland. In the meadow we can build a snowman, And pretend that he's a circus clown We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman, Until the other kids knock him down. When it snows, ain't it thrilling, Though your nose gets a chilling We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way, Walking in a winter wonderland. |

Love came down at Christmas, Love all lovely, love divine; Love was born at Christmas, Star and angels gave the sign. Worship we the Godhead, Love incarnate, love divine; Worship we our Jesus: But wherewith for sacred sign? Love shall be our token, Love be yours and love be mine, Love to God and all men, Love for plea and gift and sign. |

australian version of jingle bells Dashing through the bush, in a rusty Holden Ute, Kicking up the dust, esky in the boot, Kelpie by my side, singing Christmas songs, It's Summer time and I am in my singlet, shorts and thongs Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey! Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!, Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden Ute. Engine's getting hot; we dodge the kangaroos, The swaggie climbs aboard, he is welcome too. All the family's there, sitting by the pool, Christmas Day the Aussie way, by the barbecue. Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey! Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!, Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden Ute. Come the afternoon, Grandpa has a doze, The kids and Uncle Bruce, are swimming in their clothes. The time comes 'round to go, we take the family snap, Pack the car and all shoot through, before the washing up. Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey! Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!, Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden Ute. |

What a wonderful thread. Been off boards for a while so have missed it. I hope you don't mind me joining in. We had our Carol Service tonight and had a 'full house'. Good to see so many. The following is one we sang this morning and is by Isaac Watts based on Psalm 98. I was surprised by the 1st 3 verses as the last four is what we normally sing. 1. To our Almighty Maker, God, New honours be addressed; His great salvation shines abroad, And makes the nations blest. 2. He spake the word to Abraham first; His truth fulfils the grace; The Gentiles make his name their trust, And learn his righteousness. 3. Let the whole earth his love proclaim With all her different tongues, And spread the honours of his name In melody and songs. 4. Joy to the world1 the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare him room, And heaven and nature sing. 5. Joy to the earth1 the Saviour reigns! Let men their songs employ, While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains, Repeat the sounding joy. 6. No more let sins and sorrows grow, Nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make his blessings flow Far as the curse is found. 7. He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove The glories of his righteousness, And wonders of his love. Dorothy |

What child is this, who, lay to rest, on Mary's lap, is sleeping Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, while Shepherds watch are keeping Chorus This, this is Christ the King whom Shepherds guard and angels sing Haste, Haste, to bring him laud, The babe, the son of Mary Why lies he in such mean estate where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear; for sinners here the silent Word is pleading Chorus So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh come, peasant, King, to own him; The King of kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone Him Chorus |
