I stand by my comments Muffy but offered to withdraw because I don't wish to cause upset or, more importantly, an excuse for an argument with certain people. I think that it is so important to highlight the reasons why people are driven to lead a certain lifestyle - be it prostitution or whatever.

We are missing a major point here!!! We are trying to rationalise with the irrational - in other words do you really think these girls (and yes, mostly they are just girls) actually even stop to think about what they are doing? No! When using drugs you don't stop and think 'I hate what I am doing and wish I could stop'. You do it because you are compelled to feed your habit to the detriment of all else - nothing more and nothing less! It is not a daily decision - it is a compulsion.

The fact is that these girls are prostituting themselves to pay for drugs. Not because they like what they do. They realise that they take huge risks, they know that their lifespan is likely to be short. They don't respect themselves. All they think about is funding their need for drugs. Drugs are the scourge of our society. Last week I saw drug dealing going on in my area at 4 in the afternoon...I called the police....was held in a queue. Too late...the dealers had gone. Apparently this is a LOW LEVEL crime!!! WHY??? Most crime stems from DRUGS! Dee x

That's not what I said Carol - death is a tragic thing whatever the circumstances - I was trying to make the point that it is awful that some people choose to put themselves in a situation where they are leaving themselves open to abuse etc and inevitably tragedies happen when people put themselves in that situation - often there is a drug undercurrent so maybe we shouldlook at that and address that issue before we jump on the prostiitute band wagon

Prostitution is only high risk because men get violent and kill or batter. Taking a dangerous job is one thing, but to be killed when you're in what should be a safe environment - I don't think so. Making love, having sex or whatever you choose to call it should never be a life-threatening activity.

I think that if you take a high risk job which also pays high money then you have to be aware of the risks and take the rough with the smooth
