Let's hope this chap is the one the Police have been looking for so no other girls lose their lives. I wonder how soon the girls will be back out on the streets, and how many will use this awful situation to turn their backs on the life they had been leading. Liz

You are absolutely correct Rose but the point I was making was that if a person is guilty then we have to watch what we say publicly so that a clever defence barrister cannot use information in the public domain to that person's advantage.

well they must have there reasons as to why this man has been charged with 5 murders? Rosex

I totally disagree Rose - that is how miscarriages of justice occur, surely?

Although a person is charged under English law it certainly does not mean they are guilty! And again I say what I said earlier - whether guilty or not we should let the judicial system decide.

Rose, we will have to await the trial if things get that far, who knows if more information will come out. Earlier this week, folk were saying it was Tom Stevens, now he is bailed altho the charges aren't mentioned. Liz

The police have not caught anyone - I think we should be careful both what we say and who we direct our comments at. Any person in this country is still innocent until proven guilty and anything said before a court case can, and often will, affect the outcome. If any individual has information to make an informed judgment that may affect a case, then they should not make comments on line in a public forum which could be used as part of a defence but should instead be giving that information to the proper authorities.

One of my closest frinds is an EX Prostitute. I got courious and asked why she had put herself in that possition. The main reason she said was money. A standard 'clean' woman can earn up to $1500 Au. an hour. More if you are willing to do more exotic activities. And you can name your own price if you were to BAREBACK. When you think that a good laywer can get between $300 and $800 and hour and a surgen not much more then that, you can understand the attraction.

Here are some comments taken from sex-work.org ( a worth-while site for those wanting to see prostitution from the other side. It has opened my eyes, and made me more sympathetic!), which might be relevant. 'People tend not to view prostitutes as human beings, as someone’s child, someone’s mother or sister, they seem to be expendable in the justice system as well as in society in general.' 'Clients can be a real danger to street prostitutes, some prostitutes have been raped at the hands of their client and left in a remote area. Clients have robbed prostitutes, committed rape, assaulted prostitutes and have even murdered them. Most of the time a prostitute has reported the incident she has either been ignored, verbally assaulted for her line of work, or arrested for a prostitution related offence.' 'According to StatsCan a person who kills a prostitute has a more than 50% chance of getting away with murder.' I can't believe those attitudes can be or should be those of a just society. And, remember, especially at this time of year, that Jesus Christ helped at least one prostitute! Michael

I have heard a very interesting case put forward pro prostitution, the argument being that the girls provide a much needed public service. It was suggested that without them, there would probably be higher incidences of rape and child sexual abuse. This case for prostitution was put forward 40 years ago, before the advent of the pill and the so-called sexual revolution. I'm not claiming it is my opinion - I just found it quite an interesting point of view. Jay

Bob's mum - the title and opening comment are purely attention grabbers. They are intended to open up what I hoped would be and has indeed turned out to be a fantastically balanced thread with some particularly salient points.
