thanks. I suspect the main reason for the loss is cutting out the nightly G&Ts (2) plus nibbles, then wine with the meal, from Monday to Thursday. Ann Glos |

I'm being good today. Went with a couple of children and teacher from our local primary school to receive a Healthy Schools award so I felt I had to make an effort. We're having a healthy casserole with steamed veg (broccoli, mange tout, shallots) and mashed potatoes tonight. Angela |

Now for the bad news BC Wine still has some nutritional value, though high in calories as its made with refined sugar.. Baileys is another thing altogether...high in fat, sugar, calories and bad bad bad. When are they going to produce low-fat Baileys....somebody....please? |

Thanks TW:-) That is very comprehensive, and I usually follow a healthy diet, porridge in mornings, salads for lunch, not much red meat etc...my downfall is getting on here and sitting on my big *rse for too long!! and my few glasses of wine...of course:-)) |

BC, swap fat for lean, spreads for low fat, white to whole grain, puddings for fresh fruit, drink lots of water, and anything you normally have that can be changed to low fat version, use it, but only in the same amounts, don't be tempted to double up just because its low fat, it defeats the object. Understand that if you have high energy food in the morning like cornflakes, you are going to be hungry later because it has boosted your blood sugar too much, and insulin has lowered it leaving you needing a top up. Have oats, as they take longer to absorb and are high but slow release energy. Feel like a snack, eat some raisins, a raw carrot or an apple. No chicken skin, thats where all the fat is. Limit the amount of eggs you eat, as the yolks are high in fat, especially if you are trying to get your cholesterol down. Cut down on red meat, and grill instead of fry. The harder your body has to work at digesting what you eat, the better it is for you. Don't over blend soups, smooth soups will have all the work done already, making it easier for the body to digest. Keep 'em chunky if you can. Exercise...walk lots, swim if you can. Gardening is great when you can, and so is housework Be patient, its far better to lose weight slowly, 1 or 2 pounds a week. Any more is too much and you are likely to give in and snack. Don't feel guilty if you are naughty, as long as its not every day, no harm will be done. Remember not to cut out all fats, as we need a certain amount of fatty acids in our diet, and watch the carbs, some are not so good. I lost 3 1/2 stone doing all this before. Sadly I put it all back on, nobody's fault but mine...but I know I can lose it again. Diet isn't a punishment, so don't torture yuourself. Its a way of life, which has to be learned. |
