Naughty Brenda ,[smacks her wrist ] he he ,the pie sounded great ,but the chips don't do a diet any good ,you could have done with eating a few beans instead ,lol. I had trouble too ,i sometimes have a catnap when i have been out in the garden ,and found that i couldn't settle at night either. I then tried Camomile tea and found out that i had found the answer ,it relaxes me easily and i nod off in no time ,works for me anyway. Your spike should be no problem getting it through a flagstone ?,buy ,or better borrow a proper hole borer cutter that the builders use ,drill through the flag ,and then use a mell hammer to drive the spike down the hole ,job done, only don't buy the spike at B & Q ,they are soft and ruddy useless, get the spike from Argos ,if they can go down in my soil ,they will go through yours ,lol, only thing i suggest is ,use a brick to clout the mell with ,or you may burr the top of the spike over making getting the post into it. I have my diabetic review this morning ,and the wife has an appointment at the same time ,a busy two weeks at the hospital this month ,my retinal scan is due next week ,and the day before i have to get the missus to the Freeman for a bone biopsy to see if the steroids she is taking require her to have calcium tablets to replace the loss of bone mass. I managed to collar the son yesterday ,and told him i have the gear now ,to raise the flagstone inside the gate and build the foundation up ,so he has promised to come this afternoon. I had a look at the Global Disaster Watch this morning before coming on genes ,and found some disturbing news on the climate. It would seem that heavy weight scientists from around the world ,now think that the climate change does not mean global warming at all,but could well mean a mini ice age within a decade, which could explain why the summers are getting cooler and shorter and the winters getting colder. What are the countries leaders going to use an excuse to shove taxes on global warming fines now? ,more hype to fleece the population i reckon,it has all been. Enough of the doom and gloom anyway ,suffice to the day ,he he. I read a report on the new Trent ,and G E C jet engines that the aircraft industry is starting to fit to all new airliners and cargo aircraft ,great ,they burn 15% less fuel per hour can run on a new bio fuel which will reduce fuel cost further ,and produce less emmisions. The industry say ,way to go ,this will cost the cargo industry far less money ,true ,and less expensive fares for customers [not true] what a load of twaddle ,the companies will All pocket the savings and charge customers the same if not more,or am i being cynical ? We have a lovely morning here again ,but coming up too the weekend it all seems to be heading downhill, what with lower temperatures more cloud ,and wouldn't you know it rain he he. I was so pleased to hear that Dorothy is on the go regarding the new look balcony and planting ,and i loved the suggestions as to the marinades, gonna have to try a couple of those. Yep i love our cheese stall ,as good as the one in bury ,because as well as every cheese you can think of ,they sell rennet for peeps to make their own ,and sell every spice too ,three huge shelves at the back covered in bottles like the old sweetie ones you saw in the sweet shops years ago ,the lady said she can order Salt petre in for me if i need it for my corned beef .way to go ,because it means i don't have to send to France for it anymore. Well ,time for a quick look round the boards before getting ready to go out. Fred ;-)

Well looking at the time I suppose I should say morning all,!!!!! I had a sleep for ten minutes on the sofa when I got back from town this afternoon and it is stopping me getting to sleep tonight!! I had been to do a oouple of errands and meet some friends for lunch, it was Margaret's birthday. We had a pub lunch I was a bit mad and had cheese and onion pie which came with baked beans and chips!!! pie was really good and filling so I did not have all the chips and none of the beans. Fred ,I was thinking of getting one of those washing lines ,but don't think I will now .if its that fiddly to put in.We have our back paved so would not like to think what is under them and would have to be removed to getthe spike in !!!!! Was thinking about you when the advets came on for Wimbledon Dorothy!! Hopw you get to see some good matches. John will be watching the golf at weekend he will be playing a game himself tomorrow and was out today doing some errands himself so has not watched it yet. We are also going to see his mother at weekend at the new caravan site they moved their van to last month. Might try having some warm milk and see if that will send me of to sleep. Take care Brenda

goodmorning I was exhausted fred by the time I had read all about all that work you did yesterday good joband then you mentioned going to the meat and cheese stall how I envy that. I am very pleased with my windex gadget it is the best 14-95(dollars) I have spent in a long time the windows are crystal clear and no cloth needed to wipe them down so the balcony is all set and looks quite good of course the weather is lovely(at 8am) but rain in the forecast for later but a lovely week-end ahead I can see the highway up too the cottages is busy allready I guess some people have headed out early, brenda glad to hear that davids dad is improving that must be a relief for david hope they can fix things up. my friends visitors from england fly back this evening the 2 weeks seem to have flown by I always think that 3 weeks is better for a visit when you come this far and now they say they should have done that both are retired so no work too rush back too. I was sorry to read about the riots in vancouver because they lost the stanly cup at the final hockey game last night gives the country a bad name, lots of sports to-day the u.s open golf tournement opens to-day with lots of golfers from home in with a chance, and then of course on monday it is tennis for 2 weeks from wimbledon I shall be in raptures plus we get about 7hrs of coverage each day but that does not mean I sit on my !!!! for those 7hrs I am lucky I have a tv in all the bedrooms plus the living room so I can go from room to room cleaning as I go ( the ones in the 3 bedrooms are small ) and I have had them for years but work fine, the son and family have a wide screen one and you feel like the balls are going to hit you not sure I really like them, fred hope you and john have a great fathers day on sunday and that fred someone does the cooking for you also fred I found some new things for the bar-b-que sauces that is and a new spice, the spice is wild whiskey smoked bar-b-que put out by club house la grille seasoning and the sauces are as follows tequila lime habanero and 3 peppercorn with brandy I hope that andrew likes them I try to keep an eye out for new ones sounds really boozy but the tequila one states it is tangy and smokey and the other one includes black green and pink peppercorns so we will see how it goes bye for now dorothy

Gooood morning Never Land ,the place where you never get settled weather ,he he,talking about blighty ,land of The pharohs eeeeer ,i mean Fairoes ,that group of islands up north of here ,yep Fred is in a funny mood this morning. Nice to hear that your balcony is finished Dorothy ,now ,lets hope that all you over there ,get a very nice summer,so that all the young people in the camps can have a brilliant time, with lots of outdoor adventures. Good to here to that you are managing to get around better Brenda, and that your window cleaners are active, you are lucky lol,not many people can afford two of them,he he ,i hope you do hubby a couple of special meals when he has done your inside glass for you. We got down to the town yesterday morning ,where i went into Argos and got the spike for the rotary clothes line, and then went to B & Q for the gravel and cement mix, which i needed to grout the spike in with. What a perishing job that was,i had to nick the stainless steel carving knife to cut through the turf with because my spades have a curved blade ,no good for cutting a straight line. There i was ,on the kneeling pad sawing away ,when the neighbour looked over the fence and said ,how do you cook that then ,he he,boil or roast ,couldn't help but chuckle myself ,at what i must have looked like crouched there ,knife in hand. I only cut three sides anyway ,and using both spades peeled the turf back in a roll, exposing the soil.which proved to be nearly as hard as the concrete i was going to put in the hole. I finished up using one of the sharper trowels ,chewing the soil out and putting it into the garden bowls i keep for this kind of thing, landing up with two full bowls of soil ,over a foots worth ,lol.. I then cut a circular hole further down to start the spike smaller hole ,and finished off using a three pound mas hammer to drive the spike right down ,it's full 16 inches, finishing up with the tip just under turf level. The concrete was easy ,a full bucket of the stuff [dry] ,mixed with pea gravel .tipped into the hole and then watering it in with a can ,and fine rose. At this point i was half expecting to hear the neighbour say ,how long will it take for the spike to grow ,but he had gone out somewhere, maybe to the nearest pub to spread tales about the crazy git next door who was chopping lumps out of his lawn with a 18 inch carving knife. I went out this morning spread some soil over the concrete and the soil to raise the turf when i rolled it back out ,put the line into the spike ,cut the turf so that i could roll it around the pole .and ,bingo ,turf back down and some of that shake on patch repair kit,so that in four weeks the lawn will have sunk down to it's proper level ,and the cuts will be hidden by the new grass. I still have to fill in the old hle further up the lawn ,but left it for now ,it starting to drizzle ,and i wasn't going to get soaked when i can do it later on. The garden looks a bit of all right now ,the roses are out ,the courgette plants are dug into the border, next to the Rosemary, and the veggies are doing very well. Had the first of our strawberries last night which the wife did with low fat cream ,and a nice salad for the work done for her out back ,but have to admit ,it will look good once it settles back in. I went to bed last night ,tired ,pretty sore ,but satisfied ,and would you believe it couldnt sleep because i was soooo hyped up with all the work :-S. Think the wife has designs on going to town today to renew our metro passes ,so she can buy me a sarnie and a cuppa at the market cafe that we like to go to :-) before we visit the meat and cheese stalls before going for the bus back to Morrison's where we will park the car to catch the bus to town. Time to go anyway ,have a nice day all.Fred. :-D

Evening all.glad your balcony is done Dorothy, your window gadget sounds good.we have a window cleaner(well when he gets here)but have trouble doing the insides as they are tall windows up to the ceiling and I need the steps to do them and the kitchen ones i can not touch due to the cabinets,John does do them for me and does a good job,but I do have to ask a few days in advance.!! Davids Dad is ok at the minute ,he is still getting dialysis and is being moved to the Manchester Royal Infirmary to the renal unit there.seems they think he had a sort of Virus which is a sort of autu immune thing,He is to have a kidney biopsy when he gets there and then they should know how bad or good things are.!!! David is ok at the minute ,he was shocked when he first saw his dad in the hospital, but seems to be coping ok. weather was ok today nothing brilliant, was dry this morning and rained this afternoon, was thinking of having a cup of tea and reading my book ,but the rain stopped that. Having lunch with some friends tomorrow its one of thier birthdays, hope its dry we are not sure were we will eat so don.t want to be walking round in the rain. Hope your exs neice is ok I do remember you saying about her.Hope the camp goes ok for all the family. Its fathers day over here as well on Sunday. better go and make some phone calls before the people I need to call settle in to watch tv etc. Brenda

goodmorning it is 7-30 am my time and we have the makings of a lovely day lots of sunshine ahead so that will be nice, they have finished the balconys and they look great a nice cream colour so I am up early as I am going to try out my new window washing gadget, it is made by windex and is an impregnated pad on a long pole that folds down when not needed I bought it so I would not have to climb on a small stool, the window in the living room is quite large along with the balcony doors this is supposed to clean 20 windows before adding a new pad so we will see how it goes. I see brenda is not on line hope all is well brenda with davids dad never a easy time. this sunday is fathers day over here so I am going over to andrews for a meal, on the 27/28 bryan is off too camp for the summer I shall miss him the councillors get 24hrs off every 2 weeks and his mom and dad will go and get him and bring him home for a quick visit he will be there for 2months his 2 female cousins are also there as councillors and the younger siblings and cousins will be there for the annual 2 week visit, his oldest cousin suzanne it is her last year as she goes to uni this fall I was her nurse when she was born time flies by so fast. did I mention that andrews cousin danelle is still in a coma over 2 months now she had several bleeds in the brain she is youngest of five girls born to andrews dads brother still on life support but the doctors have not given up as she is only 45. well that is all for me off to do the window hope it works bye for now dorothy

Morning our Brenda ,hey ,sounds as though you have had a busy time these past few days ,but good with it ,long may it last for you. :-). Thanks again Dorothy ,i had my mornings sunshine yesterday and then it turned wet again, and looks as though it rained most of last night ,brill' you keep sending your spare well stuff over here ,us thirsty brit's need it about now .lol :-D. I have just read on disaster watch about the new quake in Christchurch ,with people again trapped in rubble from more collapsed buildings, these poor people seem to be getting more than their fair share of troubles ,what with storms ,fires and everything else,my heart goes out to them . Read too that there is a new menace in America, seems the new tornado somehow picked up fungus spores that ,driven by the wind can be breathed in by the populace or driven into the bloodstream by infected wood breaking the skin ,and entering the body that way, causing sickness ,and in a few cases ,death,i just hope it dies off quickly and dosn't become endemic ,or worse ,spreads to other places. :-S. Just taken the missus up her cuppa ,and am sitting watching the rain hit the windows and patio ,Hissy is watching too ,tail lashing back and forth ,boy ,she hates the rain and mews pitifully outside the window if caught out in it,he he.a swimming cat she ain't ;-). I got the feeder on the front lawn just in time for the rain to take it in so i'm looking for the lawn to start greening up quite quickly now [hopefully],and it looks like i need to get to the back of the garden out back ,the runner beans are getting to the top of the canes and need stopped,to encourage the flowers leading to lots of tasty beans .yum :-D. The temperatures are starting to climb again ,up to 18c this morning ,so that will help my crops along ,and yippee ,the new Asparagus roots i put in have broken through the soil.yep ,i know it will be two years before i can crop them ,but it does mean i have again,9 buckets producing. ,Only three weeks to go ,and we will be back in the land of Fleetwood ,and Cleveleys for 4 days and nights ,just what we two need to recharge the batteries, lol. Off for a look round the boards now, hope you are ALL enjoying the first day of the week ,tis alright for me and Brenda ,who are now in the land of the Take Your time Brigade, you others will have to take your turn he he :-P.Fred.

Hi Dorothy ,and all else who come for a visit today lol, from a much for cheerful Fred ,after a night of steady rain [thanks Dorothy] . The sun is now out and it looks like it could be a nice day. We have marties in the greenhouse in the greenhouse ,and what looks like a couple of Cucumbers starting on the four plants, and the Courgette plants are growing fast. The rain overnight seems to have worked miracles, the brassica have moved at least half an inch in 12 hours,so i'm hoping the sun will help today. The poor people in the states with the tornado ,Dorothy ,bringing a new ,unknown fungus with it ,that has infected loads of people ,and gone on to kill a few . I hope it doesn't come up your way ,and start causing problems for you on top of everything else. Your meal on the patio sounded ace Brenda ,with any luck we will get ours outside today, because ,after a night of steady rain the sun has at last broken through and it is warming up nicely The water butt is a good idea ,the plant's watered from it will grow lots quicker than that watered from a mains tap,and it may yet come to a garden ban on watering ,a couple of butts make a plant saving stop gap,and i reckon £17 is a good investment. Looks like i may yet have a bumper year for my onions ,and leeks, bring it on ,he he,lots i can do with those and a bit of kale he he. Anyway peeps ,the cat is demanding i go out for my coffee on the patio,he he ,these females are very demanding ,i must be too soft by half . :-D. Catch you later all ,Fred.

How did the christmas dinner go Dorothy,Hope it was good, Heard about the drought situation on the tv Fred ,I keep telling John we need a water butt ,which he disagrees with !! Salmon sarnies sound good ,might put some on the salad with tea tonight ,took some on holiday with us and had a brilliant lunch with acrusty baggeutte .tomato and cucumber (before the Ecoli thing),nice cup of tea and sat on the patio in the sunshine Brilliant!! Had a walk round the local market yesterday but did not buy anything ,its getting more like the flea market each time I go.there are just a couple of stalls i enjoy the plant stall and the card stall, which is a lot smaller than it was.I do prefer the one in Bury. My sister is on holiday from Mon 20th so we are planning on going up to the market in Bury for a mooch round. We are not going for anything in particular so if I can not do it all we can come home with out any worries.!!! Have a good weekend Hugs to you all,Brenda

Morning all ,another very chilly night and morning here, and we are expecting rain [i hope] we seem to be missing it all at the moment ,and i am having to drench my onions with cans of water to stop them going to seed. I am doing very well out there though despite near drought conditions [the driest spring and summer [ so far] on record, with four counties farmers banned from taking extra water from rivers or mains ,to feed grain crops, sounds like bread is going up yet again ,lol. My new leeks are doing well and i am up to date on the hedges and weeding,so i can slow down now,and take my time. Sorry to hear about John ,the super man ,he he ,but joking apart ,he is lucky to get away with what happened to him without serious damage. When you go to the market next Brenda ,get him a tube of solvent in case it happens again ,quick squirt of it will loosen the bond and enable him to free himself easily. A better glue called Areldite is better than super glue anyway ,you get plenty of time to clean it off the skin before it hardens ,and it is just as strong, good for repairing golf clubs ,and fishing rods, most plastics and ceramics.safer in use as you have to mix two components together before it will harden.. Very glad you enjoying the warmer weather Dorothy, and your Balcony plants will certainly enjoy it,enjoy your Christmas Dinner too ,funnily enough ,there is a village in Bucks called Flackwell Heath that does just that, has a special dinner with all the trimmings and decorations on June 25th ,never went but it was only about 12miles from High Wycombe ,and any one could go to their two pubs for a meal, delightful custom i think.. Yep certainly i will be using the mask in future ,stupid of me to think i could get away with it ,specially in that wind ,blame the missus ,calling me daggit every time i put one on [reference to Muppet out of Gallactica] cheeky woman he he :-P. The fir hedge looks to be recovering somewhat from the severe winter and frost burn,or is it wrong feeder [my fault ] ,but what ever ,it beats having to rip it out and replace it. Good one on the legs Brenda, just remember the old saying ,softly ,softly, catchee Monkey, otherwise known as take it easy lady Rome was not built in a day ;-) Well ,time to go and get some work done, after which i think i will do a Dorothy for dinner ,Salmon sarnie sounds just the ticket :-D. Evening all, glad to see you back after having such a great visit with your friends Dorothy. Fred you look after yourself ,I keep telling John he needs to use things properly, like the spray you used.He got himself stuck up with superglue recently when trying to mend something.!!! luckily he did not have too much on his skin and was able to get unstuck and scrub it of.!! Been trying to see if I had a match with someone who emailed me,but could not find one, same name and dates but wrong area.I have not been contacted for a while and was really exited but soon realised that it wasn't what the person who contacted me thought.!!! Still checked it out ,but it was like I thought.. My legs have been ok today and I have been round the supermarket, might try the local market this weekend ,see how I go,but its a day by day thing on how I am.( i do not want to think about not going to Bury) Went to a garden centre on Tuesday and they had some smashing things (smashing prices as well)!!!Got a rose bush for my best mate called forever friends ,she has been a great friend to me and is having adifficult time at the moment so thought It might cheer her up. Been waiting for a phone call tonight from my neice who I was inviting to have a meal with us on Sunday, but it might be on hold as they have been invited to .somewhere else ,but it is not definate yet so I am waiting for her to let me know. John is waiting to check out a golf club where he is going to play next week,so I had better go.See you all soon,Brenda

Morning all ,cor it is ruddy chilly here again today,at 5 am i was in the garden to find that i could see my breath in the morning air ,seems Dorothy that you have overtaken us with your summer well and truly arrived, lol. apologies about your card ,i did send it Honest ,glad to hear that you had a good time on your birthday anyway ,and that you enjoyed your visit to your friends. Our company went home yesterday and Hissy spent the next two hours looking for them ,he he ,she was not amused ,lol. :-\ Well, it's now catch up time ,i have tons to do in the house and garden with hedges to trim ,weeds to root out ,but at least all the planting is finished. I had two spare bits of trellis which i have put up alongside the Leeks next to the path ,to keep madam off them until they grow to the point where she will stay off them. I spent nearly the whole day in bed yesterday ,i woke up dizzy hot and feeling really yucky, and felt as though i was going to fall over as i stood up. I did a blood test ,which was normal ,and as soon as my breathing loosened i checked my heart rate and looked for any sign of an angina attach ,none ,so the only thing i can think of ,was that when i dusted the garden last night because of the ants ,i got a lungful of dust on the breeze ,because i couldn't be bothered to get the dust mask pout of the greeenhouse, won't make that mistake again. :-(. The new patch repair kit for the lawn is great ,i sprinkled it on a week ago ,watered it in ,and i have new grass growing already,a good product from Evergreen ,and i will recommend it to anyone :-). You still need to take your time Dorothy ,you will get there ,and the warmer weather will help your recovery ,as Dorothy says ,and you will need to get yourself some woolly stockings for the winter to keep the cold out of your bones. Have to get the car cleaned today ,as it goes in for it's service tomorrow and i want to get a close look at the body work ,to make sure there is no damage before the guy comes to pick it up. I will make him wait while i check it when it comes back too ,after it was damaged before i even took delivery in their workshop, i will NOT be renewing my car from Nissan ,that's for sure. Have to go out and get some shopping in ,catch you all later,Fred :-)
