badger Report 20 Oct 2008 09:22

Morning all ,ffrom a wet ,cold ,and windy Newcastle ,cor ,eck.should have stayed in Blackpool, where it was warmer and sunnier.
Over two weeks ,we only had threee days where it peersisted down all day ,not bad eeeeeh?
We went out with the sis'in law and hubby twice ,both times for a meal, at a carvery once, and a proper swanky resteraunt, where i had a mixed grill with a rare steak, two little chicken breast fillets,a nice bacon fillet, eggs [2] onion rings, sausages [cumberland] and chips,it cost £12 -50p but Liz's meal cost nowt because only the dearest meal was charged one old couple had two biggish meals of fish and chips with bread and butter and mushy peas, cost to them £5 for both meals.
We had to take our time over three days ,but we walked the lancashire coastal route betweenfleetwood and Blackpool south peir, but ,i must add ,that there were tons of seats facing the sea on route ,so we rested often on the way.
We don't think much of the golden mile though the shopping streets behind were fantastic, with plenty of cheap places ,notably B&M where we got black pudding and haggis in tins made by Grants of Scotland .
I think these tinned goods are made for the overseas market where scots cant buy fresh gear,,but ,even the white pudding was on the shelves ,also tinned.
We did a meal of haggis neeps mashed potato and white pudding for the four of us at Hazels home, and found that so long as you put the black pudding in the ffreezer for an hour ,it cut easily after decanting onto a chopping board, and the haggis was cooked in a lidded dish in the microwave.
We went on the firwst Thursday to a thatched hamlet ,hard to the lancaster canal, that has been turned into a tourist attraction, with accopmodation ,things to do and see, well thought out and brought the past to life.
It was the junction of the canal and railway network of many years ago ,of course ,the raiway is long gone, but the station is still there, and still being used as a workshop and store.
You can very easily imagine the loads of whatever being off loaded from the barges and narrow boats ,being hauled thirty yards by horse and cart ,and then being loaded on the trains for towns and villages all over the area.
I took loads of piccies from this hamlet ,through to the lights at blackpool, trams between fleetwood terminal and Star Gate ,the other end of the line.
We even went out as far as Preston, which has a lovely market, every thursday, where you can buy all sorts of stuff.
We are going back next year for sure ,god willing ,June i think ,when the weather will be a little warmer.
Hissy was pleased to see us ,following me everywhere ,to make sure we didn't leave home again.and still isn't going far from us watching every move.
Having read the report on the oz flu that is on the way over,i am glad that both Liz and i go for our jabs later today,we don't need bad attack of a bad cold ,never mind the dreaded flu bug.
Away John, can't have you swanning off into the wide blue yonder, where's me back up mate? if you bog off ,there are only very few of us old timers of the male variety,Fred needs all the help he can get lol.
Time to go peeps ,have to get the old girl watered and fed he he.see ya later .Fred.

Sylvia, hope they get you sorted soon, the mind does boggle at what is in those fridges and what they can do with it.!!
Weather today sunny and dry this morning ,then wet and chilly in the afternoon, got some washing dry in the morning,so the drier wasnt on today.
Had a good night at my sisters surprise 50th birthday party last night ,but was working today.
She was really surprised,I have never seen her lost for words like that.!!
Off to bed and some sleep I hope, take care

Hi all,
John, do stay, should we pass the hat round for you?
Yesterday took my urine to the hospital again. They couldn't find the last lot which Johan deposited in the fridge at the hospital. So, we try again. They told Johan that he had put it in the wrong fridge. Mind boggles, what on earth have they done with it then? Can't help having a laugh though.
It appears they have now found something wrong with my eyes so what next. Just getting over a nasty batch of fungus/eczema under my right foot. Terrible itching with blisters. Once the blisters had burst then the itching was more or less over. Strange.
So once again it is Saturday tomorrow but nothing really planned. The schools have a holiday so will be quiet, recession or not, they always seem to get away for most holidays here.

Hi everyone
Ever had the ninety day cough? That's what I am still getting over. I was at the doctors on 8 Oct with annoying cough accompanied by a runny nose. For the latter he gave me 28 pills which worked out four a day that's one after each meal, considering one only has three meals a day I was puzzled until he told me to have some yoghurt before it.
I am in dilemma about continuing with GR with the way costs are going my visits here are fewer these days, so if you don't see me back you'll know why. John

Hi all,
Went to see my doctor today and she said if I still have pain when I have finished these tablets then she will give me an injection.
I now have eczema/fungus under and on top of my right foot which itches like mad. The doctor has given me some hydrocortisone cream.
I was phoned this afternoon by the doctor's assistant who deals with diabetic patients and was told that I have to go to the opticians as my last trip to the eye measuring people they found something not good. What next? I don't know what they found.Lovely weather again today. This afternoon I went to my handicraft class, run by the local handicrft shop. We were with 5 of us. We are all more or less the same age, give a year or two. It's nice to get out of the house for a while.
Hope you are feeling better Brenda. We are a bright couple aren't we?

syljo Report 11 Oct 2008 19:54

Hi all,
I am thoroughly enjoying my new lamp and so pleased I bought it.
Yesterday and today I have had no pain. What a relief. One day I'm crying the whole day in pain and the next day nothing. I asked for more of the muscle relaxing tablets I had as these are so good. Mind you I only have 30 and taking 3 a day means I have them for 10 days. I must phone the doctor to see what they are going to do when the tablets are finished. I'm almost frightened of running out of these tablets.
I'm trying to get Johan to take up a hobby and set all our slides and photos onto CD. This would clear the cupboards out a bit and preserve the photos before they get any worse. I did get rid of a lot of photos by making all 3 children a "This is Your Life" book with photos and memorabilia.
I don't know enough about the computer to be able to help Johan but hope he can find a course to take somewhere.
Now have a nice weekend everybody.

Hi all,
How nice of you to play with the cats on your day off Brenda. You can always have a sleep in the afternoon, possibly when the cats will too!
Today I went to the Garden Centre and bought some plants to brighten up my sitting room. I bought two Autumn wreaths in Autumn colours and have one on the coffee table and one on the dining table. The one on the dining table I have placed on a cake plate with foot and added a red candle in the middle. I also bought two red cyclamen which I have put in identical red pots and a white cyclamen which I have added to an existing pot of green plants to give it some colour. Also bought a purple plant but cannot think of the English name at the moment. I would soon be doing this sort of thing than housework!
See you all tomorrow.

Hi Everyone, wet weather again today and windy as well,Had to go to the probate office today for what they called an interview, but was really only them telling us a few things and us swearing an oath that we had put the truth down on the forms and that was it ,we now wait for 10working days ,we will then have the paper to go to the bank who will start to release money from dads account,we also see the solicitor about the house!!!
Ideally we want to sell it to my neice but she has to get a mortgage in place and these days its not that easy.If we go througth an estate agent it will be costly and long winded.but it will have to be done.
Only had the morning off on wrk at 1.30 only till 5pm thank goodness,
Haven;t look at the price of turkeys yet Dorothy,,but do know chicken and beef have gone expensive along with lamb and pork.
Hope you get sorted out at the hospital Sylvia.
Nice to hear from you Margaret, hope all is well with you and glad you had a good trip.
See you all soon .Brenda
