Hi Alaina & Thank You :):) I read your post with much interest and you are right, a couple of things I never ever smoke with is chocolate and also milk, I can never stand the taste after having them. I gave up the smoking once before and have had that light headed feeling to so looking forward to the day I feel everything becomes much brighter which seemed to happen to me then for some reason. I cut down dramatically and refused to buy ciggarettes on days I went back to excerise and used the money for that instead, excercise days have increased to three times a week now and hoping to do more. The receptionist at the surgery have been helpful in that they also arranged a fast appointment with the smoking clinic once I told them the situation so hopefully patches will be with me tomorrow to. I have a thing about Horlicks tablets that you can buy in the chemist so a supply of them coming in for me to suck on to. Thank you for your support :):) Colin :):) |

Colin We do not mind you joining at the gang at all the more the merrier! If you are determined you will succeed and I can tell from your post that you are determined, you have named your date and you will stick to it. As you will know the first week is probably the worst, you will get light headed and dizzy but that is the norm, it means more oxygen is getting back into your blood system, drink plenty of water this will help. I'm assuming you are all prepared with patches? if not go to the chemist tell them what you are doing and they will probably recommend you start on the 15mg ones and work down, if it helps aswell get some sugarfree mints/sweets/gum these will help with the physical side of putting something in your mouth (i'm sure you never smoked whilst having a sweet in your mouth) and keep busy, change your rountine aswell if you got up and the first thing you did was have a fag change that get up 10 minutes later get dressed straight away anything which has not been the norm for you. write up a report on how you are doing every day on here if you like that's what I do and that is why I started the thread because it is my support my new crutch if you like and I get the support on here which I do not get from my family plus it gives my hands something to do! We are all behind you Colin let us know how you get on. Alaina : )) x |

Hi Alaina, Hi All :):) I hope you do not mind me adding myself here also. Before I do though Congratulations to all of you who have managed to stop smoking and to those of you who are trying to pack up smoking. I know just how hard it is being a smoker myself. I have looked in on this thread a couple of times now to see how things are going and it is brilliant to see the support here. Tomorrow I will God Willing become a non smoker myself. I have been going through my own personal battle with this since Christmas. Some of you will know that at that time a tumour growth was found in my throat. This immediately cut me down but like a fool I continued to smoke. I was told to stop smoking two weeks at least before my operation. Tomorrow I have the pre op assessments and that is two weeks before my op. To say I am a little nervous is an understatement as I speak now. My stomach is churning away here. I have already booked the appointment at the No Smoking clinic for tomorrow to. I may need all the support I can get please. Colin |

Hi Jeanie well done you! I am doing well now aswell not physically touched a cig for 10 days and have not bought any for 41 days which was when my quit date was. I'm starting to get annoyed with people that have just had a cig and come near me now which is a good sign the smell is disgusting esp when your on the bus! When it happens I just think god that's what I smelt like! I just need to get my weight loss back in order put a pound and half on this week think thats coz I've been munching on stuff I shouldn't have but I'll do it, been for a 4 mile walk today and had to climb a really big hill and when I got to the top I was hardly out of breath it was great, if i had tried that over a month ago I would have had to stop half way up, I've also got this real urge to go jogging which I have never had before I'll let you know how I get on if I decide to take it up! alaina |

Hi guys I'm doing so well this week wish I had started on the lozenges now coz they are fab!! not even thought about having a fag this week in my day to day life, only wanted a fag on Wednesday night when i got upset about all the arguing on the boards but I didn't cave in i stayed strong! Only thing that is going haywire now is my weight put a pund and a half on this week so going to have to sort that out but I know what has caused it all the chocolate! got to knock that on the head I don't want to take a step back just because I'm not putting nicotine in my body anymore! James can't believe you grassed Maz up! it was probably just a nervousness cig, she gave up after the rest of us so she will still be getting use to it, I am not going to tell her off because I have not been an angel as you know! Jeanie - try the weight watchers plan if you want to start losing weight I think it is the best one around because it doesn't brand it's self as a diet and you don't have to miss out on anything while you are on it - if you want any help let me know I'm a pro now! Anyway off to work - have a great day everyone Alaina xxx |

Hi all The latest leaflet I have from the British Lung Foundation gives this advice New drugs are now being developed that help reduce the withdrawal symptoms. These tablets can be given with nicotine replacement treatments and, like NRT, can double the success rate of smokers who try to stop. These are only available on prescription from your GP, who may also advise you to use then alongside local smoking cessation services. Your GP can advise you on potential side effects. Nice to see you Gwen and Jeanie, I've just looked at my quit meter and I quit 36 days ago, ok i've had a wobble in between but if you had told me 36 days ago that I would not be smoking 30 a day I would have laughed and said yeah right! I'm doing well this week, have changed the NRT and changed my routine a bit aswell so every thing is going good. To be honest since i changed to the lozenges I haven't had a craving attack at all I'm glad I changed thing I will carry on with these for now on. How is everyone else doing? Clare? Maz? Val? Rose? Sue Mac? Carol? wow didn't realise there were nine of us!! |

Hi Guys I am just having a look at the Click2quit website and just thought I'd mention it as it is really infomative, as I mentioned on friday i have had a wobble this week so if you are having the same this is a really great site to get you back on track or if you are just starting out (clare) there are some really good hints and tips and it even has a bad day button! you have to sign up to it but it looks like when you do you get loads of free info by email. Address is www(.)click2quit(.)co(.)uk (take the brackets out) Hope it helps, I'm doing ok now btw managed not to have any yesterday but just had a really bad craving attack this morning, I got through it but just thought I would re-remind myself of why I am doing this! Hope you are all well? Alaina : )) x |

Jeanie - hope your ok hunny? not like you to come on and seem upset you know you can pm me anytime...... Well guys I have not done well at all this week, I don't know what has gone wrong but I had 1 fag on Mon, 1 fag on tues, 1 fag on Weds and 2 fags last night - I hate admiting this as I feel I have been weak - I have managed to resist all day today and I'm doing fine now don't even feel the need to have one, think it has been a wobble because I have been really busy at work this week and its week 5, although I have not actually smoked at work it has been in the evening when I got home, every night it has got to about 10 and then I've had one : (( I admitted what I had done to my work colleagues at lunch today (we all went to the pub) and I said I could just kill to have one then and there, so my boss put her packet of fags under my nose and said take one, and do you know I looked at them and the willpower kicked in again, something went off in my head and said no! so I feel that the talking to I was going to give myself happened then, i don't need to smoke and I don't want to smoke and I'm not going to smoke, my work colleagues are in awe at how well I'm doing so it was a big thing for me to admit to them that actually I haven't done that well this week. And on the way home on the bus this woman got on and sat next to me and she reeked on cigs it made me feel sick and all I could think was god I smell like that when I've had a fag it was not nice, thankfully she got off after a couple of stops but I think if she had sat there any long I may have had to move! After I had the 2nd fag last night I had the worse headache ever and had to go to bed and then about 11 this morning the headache started again which just goes to show how much of an effect the extra nicotine can make to your body, I felt like somebody was stamping on my head it was awful. Sorry my comments tonight are quite long but I needed to get all that off my chest - thanks for listening. Alaina - the determined non smoker : )) |
