Maz and others As promised here is a list of just some of the everyday chemicals in the beloved ciggies: Acetone (nail polish remover), Acetic Acid (Vinegar), Ammonium (Floor/Toilet Cleaner), Arsenic (poison), Butane (cigarette lighter fluid), Cadmium (rechargeable batteries), Carbon Monoxide (car exhaust fumes), DDT/Dieldrin (Insecticides), Ethanol (alcohol), Formaldehyde (preserver of body tissue and fabric), Hexamine (barbecue lighter), Hydrogen Cyanide (gas chamber poison), Methane (swamp gas), Methanol (rocket fuel), Napthalene (mothballs), Nicotine (insecticide/addictive drug), Nitrobenzene (gasoline additive), Nitrous Oxide Phenols (disinfectant), Steric Acid (candle wax), Toluene (industrial solvent), Vinyl Chloride (makes PVC) Lovely eh feel sick already, I know they advertise some of these on the packets but i think it's different when you see it all like this

yes hun I have 2 kids and they don't like smoking at all. I have never smoked in the house since they were born - I always pop outside, but I seem to make excuses for them to go upstairs or in the other room so they don't see me doing it. Their dad smokes in front of them but I'm not sure if he smokes inside his apartment - they are staying with him at the moment, so I suppose they will tell me when they get back! I'm a bit of a secret smoker I suppose - guilt really. Never have smoked in front of my mum and some of my friends don't 'know' that I took it back up 2 years ago!! Maz. XX

Maz It's ok I try not to let the idiots get my back up i'm from old school before people had to pay full membership to join the threads and I know the upset these kinda peeps can cause, if she had responded to my very polite message then I would of reported her simple as. All the info I recieved is really good, even though I know all this stuff from trying to quit before some of it still shocks me, esp the chemicals that go into cigs, I'll dig that info out and put it on the post later on. Have you got kids Maz? I've got a 3 year old niece and a nephew on the way and I feel so guilty when she comes round and everyone is smoking around her that I go outside to smoke when she's there and I don't want to do that anymore I want to be able to play with her without saying hang on while I have this fag, it little things like that, that are making me determined. A xx

Hi Alaina, I'm glad you said that! I am going to ask Genes to remove that post because I find it offensive. Thanks for putting up that time-line - interesting isn't it?! I have terrible circulation so that is something that I hope improves. Also don't forget that your skin will look so much better really quickly - especially if you drink loads of water. Maz. XX

The following info is a smokefree timeline about what happens to your body after you have finished that last ever fag: 20 Mins - Your blood pressure drops and pulse return to normal, circulation improves - esp in hands and feet 8 hours - Your blood oxygen levels return to normal and your chance of having heart attack falls. 24 hours - Carbon monoxide leaves your body. Your lungs start to clear out mucus and debris. 48 hours - Congratulations, your body is now nicotine free. And have you noticed how your sense of taste and smell have improved? 72 hours - Your breathing is easier. you have more energy 2 - 12 weeks - Circulation is now improved throughout your body. It's easier for you to walk and exercise now. 3-9 months - Your lung efficiency is up by 5-10 per cent. Breathing problems are fading away. Say goodbye to coughing, shortness of breath and wheezing. 5 years - You now have only half the chance of getting a heart attack compared to a smoker. 10 years - The chance of you getting lung cancer is now half that of a smoker. Your chances of having a heart attack are now the same as someone who's never smoked

Ladies Been reading through my very helpful Smokefree leaflets waiting for my bro to get off the computer (hes been downloading Lost) Here are some helpful tips on getting ready to go smokefree (hope theres no copyright on these coz I wanted share them with you) 1. Avoid Temptation * Choose a stop date that's unlikely to be highly stressful * Don't have any cigarettes, matches or lighters on you * Don't drink alcohol 2. Get Support * Call your local NHS Stop Smoking Service (GP should be able to help with this * Talk to friends and family * Talk to someone who's successfully gone smokefree * Team up with someone else who wants to go smokefree * Call the NHS Smoking Helpline on 0800 169 0 169 3. Keep reminding yourself why you're stopping * That there never 'just one cigarette' * That you want to be in control * That you'll be much healthier, smokefree * And much wealthier, smokefree 4. During the first week * Keep busy * Find a different regular routine * Stick to non-smoking areas * Get plenty of fresh air and water Hope these help, also over the next couple of days write down the following: How much does smoking roughly cost you? Per week Per month Per year List your top five reasons for going smokefree: List why you started smoking in the first place: Do these reasons still apply? When are you most likely to want a cigarette? Reasons to smoke and Reasons to go smokefree Do the reasons to stop seem stronger Ways to manage your triggers: * Stay busy * Think about something else * Take a few slow, deep breaths * Go for a stroll, or just into another room * Drink a glass of water * Talk to a friend about it * Look back at your list of reasons for stopping * Try using NRT products
