James - Different things work for different people as I have found out, I think me actually going to the cig kiosk to pay for other things is a good test of my will power and if you tell yourself that you can never have anything again it does not work because you will be even more tempted to have it, if you tell yourself I can have it but I just won't have it today the temptation lessens and you can't actually be bothered to have that one thing (Cig/chocolate/whatever) so that is one more day without - it has been proven that this method works with weight loss so why should it not work with Nicotine addiction or anything come to that? |

Hi Guys I am holding my hands up I have had a wobble this week and had 2 fags, I'm not going to beat myself up tho I had them and I'm dealing with it. What I'm really pleased about is that I have not bought any, I have broken that habit i think. I don't know why I had the fags I just had them but it wasn't at work it was when I was at home so I know what the problem is and I am going to tackle it by going for a walk every night when i get in from work. It is weight watchers walking week next week so i have something else to focus on. anyway off to work! Alaina |

hi guys I'm nudging this thread up for Claire and Keith. Just thought I should admit I had another cig yesterday, I don't know what has gone wrong but it was only 1 cig so I'm not beating meself up, if it had been 10 I know that I heave taken a major step backwards. I have got something to concentrate on tho it is weight watchers walking week this week so going to but my effort into that if I feel the urge coming on, went out yesterday with the dog and walked over 8000 steps which I am chuffed with but need to try and fit a few more in. I'm going to have another look through my go smokefree leaflets again aswell to remind myself why I am doing this. I know I am not falling back, my quit meter is telling me that I haven't smoked 684 fags since I quit (29 days ago) and I know in those 29 days I must have smoked about 25ish fags which is really not bad going for someone who was on over 140 a week! The cravings are getting less and less and I don't even think about it when I'm doing everyday things like working, nipping out for my lunch, waiting for the bus. I know that by the time the ban comes round I will have beaten this where as a lot of people will still be trying to quit. Claire & Keith (& and anyone else)- if you really really want to do this prepare yourself for it as least 2-3 weeks before your quit date, go to the gosmokefree website (google it) order the leaflets as they really do help, visit your GP and tell them want you want to do, there is so much support out there you are not alone! and of course there is this thread which has been mine and a number of others support system over the last 29 days. Jeanie I think that is what my problem is, when I'm sat at computer all I get is assaulted with second hand smoke from my darling mother! need to keep getting up and moving to another room just to get away from it or it gives me the cravings and I give in, I'm doing well though today have had my head buried deep into my Hatch branch adding details of the 3rd distant cousin I have found through GR, its kept my mind off it this morning! This is my 20th YEAR without a fag, so encourage you all to continue giving up. I smoked 30 a day and first thing I did was light up in morning. I kept giving in and buying a packet, and had to flush them down the loo in the end. It was no good binning them as I could fish them out of there. After wasting several packets, I finally got it into my thick head that I wasn't going to smoke ever again, and I haven't! So do not give up on yourself. YOU can DO it. |

Morning everyone.... I am always a bit late to jump on the band wagon, but haven;t had one since 9pm last night.... Have my patch on and been trying to catch up on this thread - got to about page 5!!! Well done everyone so far, I shall be trying to catch you all up!! Just a quick question, is feeling light headed quite normal for just starting to give up??? Have felt pretty spaced out all morning!!?! Clare x |

Clare Well done you for starting! the lighthead thing is normal I had it and I was at work at the time felt like I was floating! It soon disappears it is a sign that a bit more oxygen is getting into your blood stream, just drink plenty of water it should pass. I started on the patches and gum but after two weeks I didn't need the patches anymore I'm still on the 4mg gum and think I will be for a while as I keep having a wobble now and again, had one on Saturday but I only had one and have not had one since which isn't bad for somebody who was on 30 a day over 4 weeks ago. Like i've said before if you have a wobble and do have a fag don't beat yourself up just carry on, I haven't bought any for 5 weeks and I don't intend to, the only trouble is my mum, brother and his girlfriend smoke so I always have temptation around when I am at home (which is why I wobble on a weekend at the moment) at work I'm fine because I know nobody would lend me one even if I beg and then I would have to buy a whole 10 packet just to have one and I'm not wasting my money like that! Gwen - you are doing brilliantly hunny! Jeanie - my inspiration when we going on holiday with all this money we've saved lol Lynda & Jean - thank you so much for the encouragement! it is welcomed believe me! |
