I've loved hats since my teens, hated the one my mother made for me as a tiddler - felt bonnet with a huge red pompom on each side - the more I worked at dislodging them the tighter she stitched them on :-|

As I am on the hunt for a purple fedora I happened across 7 rules for wearing a hat to a wedding - well I never, what a minefield!

Here's a couple - I love the one re not upstaging the mother of the bride :-0 and not showing the lining :-D

If you do choose to wear a hat, there are certain rules you should be aware of. For one, if you’re the mother of the groom, it’s considered bad taste to wear a larger hat than the mother of the bride, this is a traditional sign of respect to ensure guests don’t outshine their hosts. However, there is an exception to this rule if both the bride and groom are co-hosting the wedding, then both are free to wear a hat as large as they like.
For those that like to decorate their hat with feathers or pins, remember that it matters which side you decorate. For ladies, hats should be embellished on the right and for men, they should decorate on the left side.

When removing or tipping your hat, it’s considered rude to let the lining show, so ensure only the outside is visible and hold it toward you with the lining facing you. Interestingly, etiquette dictates that ladies may only remove their hats or fascinators when the mother of the bride does so and until this point, they should stay on.

So who likes hats and what style?

I have always disliked hats since having to wear a Juliet Cap to Grammer School. The only hat I wear these days is a pom pom footie one in the winter.

LG, our school hats were round crown and brim up at the back, down at the front - navy velour for the winter and panama for the summer. Didn't mind those, it was just my mothers cruelty to little girl hats that I loathed.

bobble hats give me 'hat head' and static

I like hats and wear them when it's cold. A warm head compensates for cold legs because I'll still be wearing shorts. I've no idea what type they are, if I see it and like it I just buy it.

I hate hats. I wear a woolly number in winter for warmth and nowadays need something in summer to keep the sun out of my eyes.

I don’t think I have the face for hats.

School hats were Panama in summer and a sort of felt in the winter. It was eventually changed to a sort of beret. Loathed all of them.

I wear a fedora to protect my eyes from daytime brightness sunglasses just don't do it. Oh and because I love stylish hats :-)

I do wear a bobble hat in the winter though, if nothing else it keeps my ears warm :-D

Some people look great in hats, but I'm not one of them, and I find them 'itchy' and uncomfortable after a while.

I have a sun hat but even that irritates me, maybe a floppier cotton 'bush hat' might be more comfortable...

My grandmother had a floor to ceiling cupboard with 7 shelves all full of hats. Some she made herself. When she sadly passed, dad & i donated some to the local charity shop and some to a theatrical society who were delighted with them

I do like hats myself and have several in different styles. If you have a great outfit for a wedding or other occasion, the hat finishes it off. I have had straw hat for a summer wedding with dried flowers, pillar box red hat for a wedding, 2 black hats with feathers for funerals etc. However I dont particularly like berets or Woolley hats as they simply do not suit me.

My grandma always wore a hat, it was the done thing for older ladies then. They were 'interesting', not a determined style - I always thought they might have been steamed over a blancmange mould! :-D

I dislike hats and they don’t suit me at all. I never wear a hat to either weddings or funerals. I do sometimes pull on a hat if it is really cold but theyvtendvtongetbin the way of my hearing aids.
