...then you get institutions that should know better just phoning/emailing asking for personal details!!

I reported my council to the Housing Ombudsman for not removing the broken asbestos tiles, then taking the best part of 2 years to do so!

The Council offered me £365 as a 'goodwill' payment.
I told them, 50p a day - or a day's wages for the person who offered it to me - for the disruption, dust etc was insulting, so contacted the Ombudsman.

The result from the Housing Ombudsman was maladministration on the council's part, and the reparation was increased 4 times.

The Council then phoned me for my bank details!
I pointed out they already had them - rent & council tax is paid by direct debit.
Apparently, he didn't have access.
So they expected me to hand over these details to a phone call :-S

The Housing Ombudsman wasn't much better.
Last year, I'd made an official complaint to them, for not responding to emails.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a letter from them, thanking me for my letter, and enclosing a memory stick I'd apparently sent them.
I'd never sent them a letter, or a memory stick.

I emailed them, asking what to do. No reply. Have to admit, I did add the comment 'I know you won't respond to this - you never do' to the email.

I phoned them the next day. Eventually was put through to someone, the phone rang - then went dead, and I received a message informing me that from 15:30 on a Thursday, phones aren't answered, as they're on training. it was 15:30

Phoned on Friday - was asked to send it back.
No offer of a stamped addressed envelope, just an assumption I would go out of my way to correct their very serious 'mistake'.

I couldn't send it by recorded delivery, as it was to a PO box
I sent the memory stick back, with the letter, asking for a return of my postage, and acknowledgement that they had received it.
They haven't bothered contacting me.

I think I would have been curious to know what was on the memory stick.

Well, maybe not - it might have been malware!

ArgyllGran - I was interested - though the letter indicated it was evidence for this persons complaint.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), it needed a code - yes I put it into my laptop.
I've never seen a memory stick with numbers on..
