I have a question for you.

How do people react when you say you do family history research as a hobby?

Are you asked frequently stupid questions as follows and some replies I have made
over the years.


Are you wealthy? Are you here for the reading of the will or what?


Do you have a title? Yes, decent human being.


What did your family do? They WORKED mate. :-P


Have you been digging? No, I am not an archaeologist different interest.


Do you have a skeletons in your family? Mind your own business!


Do you have any criminals in your family?! Reply as above and also shove off!


Replies very welcome but please keep them clean or cleanish. :-D

Usually I plan to do that one day. Which means never.

Or they say they have no interest and think I’m mad. One of this gave me a plaques which says “ I shook my family tree and all the nuts fell out” ( how true ;-) )

I have a fridge magnet with similar on it names. :-D :-D :-D. We have famous, paupers, ag labs and yes criminals in our tree.Oh and some money grabbing crooks for good measure :-D :-D :-D.

Some people are very anti and get quite angry when you mention it. A sneaky peak at records usually show the ‘premature’ birth.

Every time I mention it the only reply seems to be.’how far back have you gone.’

I've got a plaque like that, Names, which was a gift from my son. As he was into Family History before I was I didn't mind at all. :-)

I usually get the 'how far back have you gone' but the answer is never easy,

I normally get things like" have you come across anyone famous in your tree?"

Or, isnt history boring?

The most common response I get is "how far back have you gone?" and this is often followed by a comment such as "Well, it's all online these days so it's easy"

My mother's reaction was to give me a cold look and say 'what do you want to go delving into the past for?' Yes there were skeletons to be found and it made me more keen to find them!
