ealing broadway is lit up like a christmas tree anyway sp doesn't need extra, i just thought the general idea was to save electricity where we can. Certainly don't want power cuts

Our Council obviously has money to burn. Our Christmas lights from last year were left up and shining every night all through the Summer.

One family member moved to the country a few years ago, and the street lights are turned off at 9pm each night, in the Winter. Driving along in pitch black is awful, scares the living daylights out of me.

Doesn't help us though, reduce the council tax bill and it isn't safe to walk home in complete darkness.

Even the lights in Oxford Street, are only on for 7 hours a day, to cut the expenditure.
3pm to 11pm.

If it is only street lights then that is fair enough, it makes for safer for walking home in the dark.

Here street lights are off late afternoon so the main roads are completely dark except for car headlights. Dangerous.

Quite ridiculous isn't it, Maddie? Lighting up council buildings, streets until very late when most people are not in the town centre.

Once people finish work & head home, is there really a need to have the town all lit up?
Thought councils were strapped for cash too with energy prices etc going up?
And Jo public are told, switch off lights in rooms you are not using to save money!

"As the clocks go back and the days become shorter, you may start to notice that Ealing's streets will be shining bright. That's because we are turning up the lights here in Ealing Broadway, and everywhere else in the borough," says council leader Peter Mason.

does this mean using more electrity ?
