A lot of water companies in the UK have been forced to refund money to customers for not 'processing' waste, but just dumping raw sewage into rivers and the sea!! :-D

About time!!

I did think of you and your threads on here, when I heard today's announcements.

Well, it's a bit audacious to charge us for the 'processing' of waste, when they do nothing of the kind. :-|

...then there's 'self service' tills in supermarkets...

Also, having to take my own gas & electricity readings - basically being the 'admin' for multi-national companies. I've got the latest 'smart' meter - shame it doesn't work! :-|

We are also having to read our own watermeter. The company have estimated it several times and then tried to put our standing order up.
Maybe they hoped we would pay up so they could afford to repay us the money the government have told them to do . ;-)

It's very annoying, isn't it?
I mean, the cost of a meter reader is nothing, considering their profits.

Gosh, we've never had to read our water meter. :-0

Our area was the first in the country to have compulsory meters... about 2009 I think.

We used to have meter readers for gas and electric. I think they came about twice a year and the other quarters were estimated ? Now we have to read them.

The gas reader was very helpful to me once.
I can't think how, but we got onto the subject of Family History.
His name tag I.D badge showed he had an unusual name and he said it was French in origin and his family were from Jersey.
He was kind enough to look up some information in the archives there, when he next visited the island. :-D
