I watched 'Villages by the Sea' this evening - it was about Tintagel.

Apparently, Richard, Earl of Cornwall 'acquired' Tintagel.

He may have 'acquired' it, but it 'cost' him 3 Manors!!

He 'acquired' it off my ancestor, Gervais de Tintagel (aka de Hornicote).
It had been in his family for at least 3 generations!

Surely, when they're doing the history of a place, they could 'mention' the history.

Maggie, I love Tintagel and spent holidays there in the mid 80's. 3 friends and I rented a cottage for 2 weeks. Walked down to a local pub in the evenings for food etc. Was very strange as the landlord said he knew where we were from and regularly visited that part of Kent on a weekly basis...all very spooky.

What channel was that on? Sorry I missed it.

Yes why didn't they mention the history, as it would have made it far more interesting especially with your family connection?

Memories of happy single days with friends lol :-D

It was on BBC 2, Florence.
I don't always watch them, but obviously had an interest in this one! :-D

Tintagel had a 'life' before the Earl of Cornwall built his castle there.

I wonder if there will be a repeat?

Daughters and I stayed in a quirky little cottage in a village near Bude and visited Tintagel about 2018.
