We picked up a collecting box for Canine Partners assistance dogs charity a couple of weeks ago.
It contained a paper fiver and an old pound coin which we changed at the bank.

You know, I had to laugh the other week.

Canada went to all plastic banknotes, every denomination, between 2011-2013.

Now they are being slammed as being plastic and all but indestructible.

Which of course was why so many countries have gone for them, Bank of England being quite a long way behind. They effectively cost much less than paper notes because they last so much longer.

But plastic is now the "bad boy"

Don't forget...

The Bank of England will be withdrawing legal tender status of the paper £20 and £50 notes after 30 September 2022.

You can of course use them after that date to pay into a bank account and at some Post Offices, if you hold an account there.
