When Dtr and I had coffee this morning while we both thought Charles could be forgiven we both found it incredible that someone could make such a cock-up with the desk/table - with words to the effect that what kind of nincompoop could get something as minor as that wrong on such an occasion! You'd think everything would have been checked over and over again!

Dtr also asked what kind of people stand around like lemons watching someone trying to sign something in such an awkward position instead of taking action?

I wondered why Penny M had not cast an eye over everything just in case.

It’s a bit overcast here.

Last night I caught up with the King signing. I got the impression that someone there did not know how to lay out a desk - inkwells to top right and pen stand next to the ink stand is such a basic understanding. I think it was laid out for the high-falutins’ signatures instead of the King’s.

Someone needs to make sure the staff are up to their jobs, I think. The one in charge is ??? Ordinarily, such a cock-up is minor stuff but not on an occasion such as this where the world and his dog are watching!

There is online mention of the King’s tetchiness (among other more far-fetched explanations) as he gestured for staff to remove the pen stand. The signing was made more awkward by the wrong placement of pen and ink stands which is a shame as it is not a good beginning. The two previous King Charles might have seen heads roll. :-0 :-0 :-0

Maybe the King will be more careful in future about displaying his annoyance - at least I hope he will as it doesn’t put people at their ease.

No matter, cos I think we have a future star in Prince William. I spotted the caring hand out as Camilla climbed the steps. Also, he did move the pen/ink stand on the desk when he signed and he replaced the top on the inkwell.
