Technology advance has been great in my lifetime. When I was at school I don’t think I ever envisaged that I would communicate electronically with friends and family. It is wonderful that I can and that it is so instant. That is a good thing. And If I spell something incorrectly the computer will correct it.. Is that also a good thing? In my opinion, yes and no. If i then proof read what I have written and correct any computer errors that is fine. If, as many correspondents in newspapers seem to do, I rely on what the computer thinks I mean it is a bad thing. I have just read a piece in the local paper Not actually a very gripping piece concerning the removal some time ago of the head of a statue by a visiting football team. The final sentence of the piece is...... |

You can always tell who relies on a spell-checker, because all the long difficult words are spelt correctly but shorter ones like there/their, affect/effect or alter/altar are often wrong. |

My challenges with modern technology involve sub titles on TV. |

Love it Gwyn. I wonder that somebody has not compiled a book on the wonders of sub titles. (In that I often wonder what was really said), |

This morning, I've (so far) read, in an online newspaper about 'the 'Conversative' contender', and, in another article that 'sirens were 'herd' |

Good things that can be bad? How about Tesco’s technical systems? Wonderful when working but I bet all those people who failed to get a delivery yesterday wished delivery sorters/managers still worked with a clipboard and pen. |

Vera, a case of relying on Technology with no back up for that sort of problem. Thinking about it, other than resorting to the old order book left at the grocers as we did in the 60s with the coop when they delivered, I can't think of a way to back up their huge system. Unless by having a second system in some way. Any ideas? |

Talking of typos, a friend of mine was going to a funeral. She texed a friend before hand and this is what she typed. |

Here's another that could have done with a bit of proofreading, though I rather like the picture it conjures up. |
