Thousands of bees which were stolen from a Cornish country estate have returned by themselves after apparently fleeing their captors.

More than 400,000 of the insects were stolen in five hives – and the culprit is believed to be another local beekeeper.

They were stolen from Tresillian House in an audacious heist – with the culprit’s tyre tracks in the grass as the only evidence. Police said they believed the hives were being stored locally, but now the bees have started to return of their own accord.

Tresillian House is just down the road from us and strangely enough I have noticed a lot more bees than usual around in the garden but assumed it was just down to the very hot weather this week. They haven't stayed around tho so hopefully have all gone home!

Well they would Susie if they had a home to go to!!

I had a BF years ago who was a beekeeper and to move them would have to be done at dusk as bees cant see in the dark and most would be in their hives then. He had a Toyota hi lux and also the hives were very heavy to lift particularly at this time of year as would be full of honey!

Im sure the culprit will be found soon. There probably are not too many beekeepers in the same area.
