Party At The Palace

So who watched the Party at the Palace and what did we all think of the various acts?

Dont hold back, say what you think.

Personally I think they should stop bringing back the groups/acts from the 70's and 80's. Its one thing to go to a club or private birthday bash and dance to the music of these decades but people like Rod Stewart are no longer attractive when they sing. They struggle for the high notes. Duran Duran singer Simon Le bon is another.

This time Queen did nothing for me and the original group with Freddie mercury are one of my all time fav bands.

It was evident that the younger royals like Charlotte & George enjoyed themselves and getting to stay up late was a treat for them.

I actually thought the Queen at the beginning in the sketch with Paddington Bear was nothing short of brilliant. What a game lady to agree to do that and it was hilarious especially with the marmalade sandwich in her handbag!

There won't be another of these parties for a long while to come and then there would hopefully be lots of newcomers and the golden oldies long retired!

I watched most of it but missed the beginning so only saw the Queen's sketch on the news afterwards. Brilliant!

I thought the overall atmosphere of the show was great but a few acts were not. I agree with you about Simon le Bon. He couldn't sing back in the day and he certainly can't now. I was also disappointed in Diana Ross - I'm sure she was miming. Thought Stephen Fry's comment about the Queen "tolerating" 14 Prime Ministers was funny.

I thoroughly enjoyed it all! Yes, some acts were better than others but overall I found it very entertaining

I thought The Queen was brilliant with Paddington Bear at the beginning :-D I was racking my brain as to who the butler was and it's come to me this morning, the MP in Ghosts :-D

The staging was amazing! Using Buckingham Palace as the backdrop for the special effects light show was fantastic together with the drones above the Palace. It was all fit for a very special queen :-D

It was also lovely to see, after two years of isolation, such a mass of people being able to come together to celebrate and enjoy :-D

We watched it, I thought Queen were pretty good at being the opening act, they are never going to be as good as they were, there was/is only one Freddy Mercury. It was entertaining, obviously not somewhere you would go to hear excellent acts. And I really hated the way Rid Stewart murdered Sweet Caroline, whatever was he doing singing that song that surely everyone associates with Neil Diamond. And Celeste did the same for another iconic song. It’s a Wonderful World.

But the atmosphere was good and the crowd were happy. I loved Camilla's face when she was waving her little flag. I did think I was glad not to be in that crowd trying to get home.

I watched it all and thoroughly enjoyed it. <3 <3

My only regret was I couldn’t be there as the atmosphere must have been amazing

The technology involved was superb and huge credit to all the designers and

technicians who organised such an event <3

I joined it halfway through Williams speech.

I have no idea who the singers were or what they were singing but was entranced by the drone art.

I had found the Paddington Bear sketch on the I pad. Brilliant!

I watched it all and thoroughly enjoyed it too. I was glad that I wasn’t in that crowd though.

The special effects and lighting people deserve an accolade.

You can’t half tell a trained vocalist. I thought Adam Lambert (performed with Queen) had the most wonderful voice - by far the best vocalist of the night, and I liked him every bit as, if not better, than Freddie Mercury. I think Brian May and Roger Taylor are onto a winner there - and I think they know it. I watched their interview too.

It wouldn’t be Punch without Judy so I was happy to watch Rod Stewart and the usual entourage for all his voice is not what it was. Same for Duran Duran and Jason Donovan whom I always think of as a typical bloke (is there such a thing?) for some reason, as I do with Rod.

If, as they say, Diana Ross was there for Prince Charles, my guess is that he’d have been happier if the Supremes had been performing with her as she is past her best or with Mary Wells or Martha and the Vandellas as he seemed to like Motown - but some will be long gone now so choice would have been very much restricted.

I am afraid I don’t think much of rap or ‘talking music’ as I call it, nor this swishing around the floor and novice acrobatics. It would have been better to have had the country’s top gymnasts perform to music - but that’s my opinion and I am getting on, so I appreciate groups such as Diversity appeal to younger age groups.

Having said that, I enjoyed Sam Ryder and he was so excited in his interview it made one feel absolutely delighted for him; there seemed to be no edge to him so I hope he goes from strength to strength.

Never heard of Craig David so that’s an age thing perhaps. I liked the mix of LloydWebber music though.

One thing I thought was missing - where were the songs that were popular during the earlier decades of the Queen’s reign and classical music? It would have been good to start with some of those tunes and songs. But, again, it’s my own opinion. I’m stopping now before I go on for England. :-D

What did you think of the outfits by the way? :-D

It was, Ann. It was a lovely surprise to see the Queen with Paddington even though I thought she was a look-alike at first. <3 :-D

It was a shame that the sound for Diana Ross wasn’t great. But why did she dress like Cruella De Ville?

Jl, I thought that at first with the Queen..lol thought it was a look alike but loved it so funny.

And yes Rod Stewart killed Sweet Caroline, wish Neil Diamond had been there far better.

The light show was fantastic and no idea how they do the pictures in the sky. Loved the Corgi one :-D

I hate it when others cover a good song and spoil it. Rap music, I absolutely hate it, just a rambling that goes on & on.

Im very claustrophobic and whilst the atmosphere there would have been amazing, Im glad I was watching from home.

Diana Ross's outfit...hmmm awful sorry. I did think she was miming too, the sound at the beginning was dreadful as couldnt hear her properly.

It was a fairly good show but there could have been some more classical or Glenn Miller, something more from a decade the Queen the Queen might have enjoyed perhaps.

Loved when Prince Charles called the Queen "Mummy."

Over 400 drones used for the pictures in the sky provided by company Skymagic.

Fantastic show. :-D
I’ve edited to say it might have been more drones but I got my original information from

the daily mail so might not have been accurate ;-) ;-)

Florence61 Report 5 Jun 2022 19:50

Ah Von yes the drones...amazing things arent they.

I watched the pageant this afternoon and I really enjoyed it. Fantastic displays and floats and Ed Sheeran sang Perfect to almost end the show.

Best of all was when the Queen appeared on the balcony. Oh bless her, was very emotional. We will never have another Platinum Jubillee in our lifetime and seeing the next 3 kings standing beside her was an amazing moment.

looking at some of the choreography......and thinking back to some black and white musicals where say a hundred dancers would move perfectly in sync.....how did they manage that, then?

Florence61 Report 6 Jun 2022 14:55

With a lot of practice and hard work Bob.

Caroline Report 6 Jun 2022 15:22

I could only watch it thanks to an American channel; oh the irony; so they cut some of it for all the adverts. Overall I don't like concerts if I'm looking at pure music obviously the sound is never as good as a studio....but the atmosphere is the thing for concerts.
I too questioned whether Diana Ross was actually singing.
Loved the Queen and Paddington bear.
