Many years ago (more than I care to remember) that, even if my travelling speed was just under the limit I was told by my instructor to stay left and slow down sufficiently to let the beeper behind me pass safely.

He also foxed me when I started to learn by asking who had priority on the road at all times. I didn’t have a scooby but it was all new to me so I blurted out the usual, those turning right, those turning left, cyclists etc.

His response, ‘Pedestrians. You try knocking one down and see what happens!’

It can be very frightening to be ahead of someone 'with a valid reason'. I was once in that very situation with the car behind weaving around looking for a gap in the two lanes of traffic.

The driver did eventually get out at traffic lights and apologised - his child was being blue lighted to hospital.

I wished them well but had been badly frightened.

you dont know, because you are not in their shoes, but they MAY have a valid reason for their hurry......if it was a blue light in your mirror you would certainly "FIND" somehow to let them by...

LG I am the same and won't be bullied, in my option they find themselves inadequate in some way, my sister in law being one of them.

On our narrow lanes pulling over is not a safe option. To me impatient drivers are just bullies and I will not give in to bullying in any shape or form :-|

It is all very well to say pull over and let them pass BUT you have to that safely and it is not always possible to find somewhere to pull in.

RTR Impatient drivers, I have no intention of moving over to let get on with it when I have done nothing wrong, they should do the right thing and and obey the speed limits.

Doing what you can to further enrage impatient drivers is a good strategy to be involved in somebody else's accident. Safest bet is to pull over and let them get on with it.

"Safety Cameras" are good for raising money but have a neglible effect on serious accidents. What does work very well is police patrols but they cost money.

nameslessone, it hasn't, it's near a school so makes sense, similar happened to me a long time ago, I pulled up in a supermarket car park next to the one that overtook me, said well done that did you no good at all, and smiled.

I always laugh when I catch up with one of those overtakers at the traffic lights. I usually make sure they can see me in their wing mirror as well as the rear view.

Has the speed limit recently been reduced to 20? The other driver may not have realised.

Knowing where all the speed cameras are around here I'm happy when someone who has been tailgating me suddenly speeds by on their way to the camera....

ZZzzz Report 19 May 2022 14:59

Good LG I'm glad you do that and that I'm not the only one.

LaGooner Report 19 May 2022 14:46

We have lots of winding lanes around here and if I am getting harrased in that way I go slower than the limit just to pee them off :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D. There is no way they can overtake on the blind bends around here.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 19 May 2022 14:27

did the driver think they were exempt from the speed limit? It is a pity more people don't stick to it. In our village it seems most people ignore it.

ZZzzz Report 19 May 2022 13:20

On my way home I was driving through a 20 mph area when the driver behind me kept beeping at me because I was to slow so after that I stuck to exactly whatever the speed limit was and hopefully peed him off even more. :-D
