I didn't watch it but, just looking at the results this morning. Who says the Eurovision Song contest is not political?
congratulations to Ukraine. and also to UK.
Sadly what a difference a war makes" :-(

After the jury votes were counted the UK was in the lead. I expected that the public votes would lead to us dropping several places but it turned out to be only one. I think the bias is cultural rather than political but there is no denying the effect the war had on Ukraine's win.

I didn't watch it, but did play Ukraine's and the UK's songs afterwards.
Didn't think much of either of them.

I do find it strange that the UK's position was where it was - the first time we've been in the top 3 for 20 years, I believe.

Could it be sympathy votes, for both countries? :-D

I think the UK's song was very well sung with Sam giving a very strong performance with an incredible vocal range hence him being on the top of the leader board after the Judges scoring :-)

Sam did himself and the country proud :-)

Who knows, in any other year he may have won but credit to Ukraine with their catchy song

:-)

Best Eurovision song in a long time though I cannot see the over 50s going for it.

The British team hired an agency to suss out a winning formula after an interninable string of flops. That was before 24 Feb 2022.
The Brits would probably have won but for the Kalush Orchestra.

RTR is well over 50, too! :-D :-D :-D :-D

There's a definite 'downside' to attempting to use the age thing, when someone MUCH younger than you knows your age!!

I didn't realise there was music that particular ages 'should' like.
Who decides that?
Are there colours different aged people 'should' like too?

I watched and quite enjoyed the contest.

Sam is very popular on Tik tok apparently and the performance was good I thought.

The main votes for the Ukraine were from the tele vote so not political as such more about standing with them imo. Not a bad song even though not my type not the worst one.

edit. Ukraine has won before I believe.

This year the UK took it seriously for the first time in a very long time. They chose a top flight production company who specialise in stage sets. They also cleverly chose Sam who has a huge Tik Tok following in Europe. He also spent months touring Europe promoting the song so it was really well know to the audience.

In previous years the record companies would not chance any promising new acts because if the bombed in Eurovision, that would be their careers
over.

It was obvious that Ukraine would win the public vote because of the war factor, people wanted to show solidarity with Ukraine, if it wasn’t for that we probably would have won. All credit for the second place though.

Apart from the UK and Ukraine, I quite liked Sweden and thought they had a chance.
Good to see us for once in the top 5. I like the song and yes I'm well over 50 lol.

Of course the war had something to do with Ukraine winning but not a bad song even so. We still got 2nd place.

Had to laugh though when Graham Norton said, "poor Germany, last place (before the tele vote) with nil points." Well they will know how we(uk) have felt on more than one occasion!
