Poor you, Shirley, a bit more than you first expected but you are obviously worth spending the money on so try to stay positive and look out for nice headwear. Google for alternatives to scarves- maybe a turban or two, and rock the look.

Treat yourself kindly

Will be thinking of you Shirley.
It seems that your 'team' is pulling out all the stops to get you back to your usual way of life.
Keep up with your positive outlook and how nice that the brighter days are ahead, when we will all feel more like going out for exercise.

Yes Shirley you will need to keep your head warm as it will miss your hair. It sounds as if you are doing well and you have a good positive outlook. Hope the time soon passes for you and the sessions will soon be over.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 15 Feb 2022 14:24

So I am six plus weeks down and feeling really well

Walking is dodgy and mobility off but it’s lack of exercise as had to stop my daily walk around the block

Had a tooth problem in that a back tooth snapped off at the gumline but an emergency appointment at the dentist showed was an old crowned tooth and only the root needed extraction

So went to Maidstone hospital on Monday for patient info session re chemo and everything gone through on possible side effects and what needs following up urgently and what doesn’t

Seems I will lose my hair soon after first session too

Not looking forward to that but then again it will regrow!

So on wed 23rd it’s the first of four sessions three weeks apart ,then radiotherapy

It’s a preventative plan as as far as they know nothing escaped but they can’t guarantee that

I am now very let’s get on with it,even bought myself some scarf type caps especially for chemo loss of hair and some special hair shampoos that won’t irritate the scalp

:-P

Thanks folks

I am torn tbh

But thinking at 84 coming up 85 they must feel I am able to be offered treatment and it’s prevention as the organs taken out as part of the hysterectomy were clear including the nearest lymph node .

As they said very correctly they can’t know if a cell hasn’t escaped !

As part of the treatment they will do two zaps of the scar at top of the vagina where they' removed the cervix even though it looked healthy

All a bit of a bummer tbh but have been told you did the right thing to be checked as soon as you were aware something wasn’t right

Too many ladies ignore and then it’s too late

If this buys me a few more years then it’s a bonus

At 84 then I know I am in the twilight years anyway !

I’m sorry to hear this Shirley. It must have been a shock for you but it’s good you are getting treatment. Stay positive - I’m sure that’s half the battle. Thinking of you and sending lots of good vibes your way <3

Oh Shirley, this was a bit of a shock and not quite what you were expecting but... chemo is available to you and also the radiotherapy. So heres hoping that the combined treatments will kill off any odd cell lurking about.

When my daughter had cancer years ago, the words"its bad but we can treat you", have always stayed with me because for some children they couldnt treat and just sent them home.
So being offered treatment is a good sign as that means, they are sure it will do its job.

Positive thoughts coming your way and hugs too. Will be thinking of you and im sure you will keep us informed.

Take care <3 x

That was a shock for you Shirley but fingers crossed that nothing has migrated and the chemo while it is not what anyone wants will be hopefully preventative. The good news is that you have felt well with no pain which means you will be strong before going on the chemo. Stay your usual positive self, we will all be rooting for you. <3 <3

I'm so sorry Shirley. Thank goodnessyou went to the Docs asap.
I'm sure there will be lots of useful advice coming on here.
The only thing I know is that someone was advised to get gel fingernails to protect their own.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 31 Jan 2022 14:02

Well went to hospital on Thursday to see the oncologist and expecting to be given a radiotherapy plan

Wasn’t prepared for the results given!

So it was a very factual and was a very fast rare growing tumour

Even though no sign of spread there’s no guarantees a cell hasn’t migrated even though all other organs were clear

So it’s now 4 sessions of chemo ,once every three weeks ,Then 25 sessions of radiotherapy

Not what I was expecting tbh but am still being positive

At times I am omg this is what will carry me off ! But if it buys me some more years then it’s a bonus

At 84 I know I am on the down years anyway

I have been surprisingly very well

Little to no pain which is surprising considering the whole lot was removed

Still got stitches as they are disposable but they are still in situ

The worse part is the daily injection of blood thinner that has to be done in the tum

I have to steel myself to select an area and jab it in!

Only 4 more to go

Have to wait 72 hours then till I can have a glass of rose

I really could do with a glass .or two !

Thanks Liz

I have an appointment on Thursday 27th with the oncologist to discuss pros and cons of radiotherapy

Can’t start till all healed but seems they are setting things up to be ready

I intend to have it anyway as an extra precaution and follow up
