There was a St Oswalds Home for Girls at Cullercoats (found by googling). Could your Mum have been there? There is a bit online about it and some pictures. |

As far as I know it was called Cullercoats school for girls but I don't know if it was just a school or an orphanage too, my Mum did say that she was ironing something purple and thought she had burnt it, so would that have been for a church or the colours of the orphanage, I'm just trying to find out more about her really before she married my Dad. |

My Mum was in an orphanage in Newcastle 1928 to 1938ish I have found a lot of information about it but wonder if it was Catholic or Church of England run/owned, so could someone point me in the directtion of where to look please. Thank you. |
