Switching Power Suppliers

Has anyone done this and how easy was it, please?

I am currently with Scottish Power and am getting fed up with trying to contact them!! I did a bit of Googling and found that the six biggest companies are also the six worst on a survey of customer satisfaction, with Scottish Power second from bottom.

The best ones, and also often the cheapest, are the smaller companies, but I am a bit wary at the moment because several of them went out of business earlier this year.

I have been looking at Octopus Energy. It appears OK at the moment, but if anybody knows otherwise please say so.

I was with Octopus - they were excellent!
Then I moved to 'People's Energy', who were quite good, but useless at customer service. When I told them I was moving they gave me a 'ticket' - that was never actioned on, so ended up with British Gas - who the last person to live here had.

British Gas were useless. they'd fitted a 'smart' meter here, whe the last tenent lived here, but always estimated my bills - even though I offered to send them meter readings.
I left them, and I received an Electric Bill, then a Gas bill, that had the amount on the electric bill added on to it! :-| They were also reluctant to refund the excess money they's taken off me, by estimating my bills!
I then went back to 'People's Energy', who went bust, and less than 6 months after dumping British Gas, I was automatically put back with them. :-P :-P

Once I have the money from British Gas, that's owed to me by 'People's Energy' (shows how useless 'smart meters' are, doesn't it, and mine's '2nd generation'), I will be going back to Octopus.

My sister's energy company went bust too - and she was automatically put on Octopus. She received an email offering her, and anyone she recommends, £50. As I was going to go back with them again, I shall ask my sister to recommend me :-D :-D

8 Oct 2021 — Do nothing with your energy supply and roll on to the price cap when your deal ends rather than trying to switch. That's the message from ..

Thank you everyone. The Martin Lewis item is interesting but is aimed at people who want to switch to get cheaper prices. That would be nice but is not my main reason for switching.

Maggie's recommendation of Octopus is great and I shall go ahead. I just need to find out how to do it! :-S :-)

I also saw that Martin Lewis show and it’s good advice.

However, even if I was planning to switch I’m not sure it would be a good idea as they must be inundated with work with all the customers being switched after their previous companies went bust.

Our daughters first year was coming to an end and we realised she had not been getting her bills. It took about 4 calls before they actually got her email address right. ( they had been taking the money :-D).
