Ann, I have an Acer screen, which we have had for ever as we didn't change it when we bought our new computer. |

I have 12 boxes expanded and 4 collapsed and in settings when I type is display and brightness it says no results but by pushing through settings until I found anything relevant I brought up what you say you have on clicking on the notifications box but the slider would not move. However I discovered night light was off so switched that on. and whatever I did yesterday going about things a completely different way seems to have lessened the brightness anyway. thanks though for letting me 'find' that little box. Although this is a large Acer screen I don't remember if it was a new one or one passed on to me by T when he bought a new one for flying his aeroplanes. So it may be an older model. who knows? It may be galling to T to know that one of the things I miss of him is his technical knowledge. So many little things that don't exactly go wrong but need adjustment have happened in the past year. |

Ann, you can also try what Sylvia suggests. Click on settings. If you can see Display and Brightness click on that and there is a slider for brightness. On mine D & B doesn't show on settings but there is a box where you can type in what you are looking for. If I type in D & B in that box it comes up. The level of brightness showing is the same as I set yesterday via the Notifications icon. |

That's very odd Ann. If it's saying collapse, then it must already be expanded. When mine is expanded I can see 13 boxes that include night light etc. and underneath those boxes is a brightness slider. Above the boxes it says collapse and when you click on that you can only see four of the boxes and the word expand. This is with W10 and Firefox. |

Vera, thanks, I found the icon and it doesn't say expand only collapse. No slider although there is a box saying night light (W 10 and Firefox). |

Nothing’s easy is it Island? Are you sure that, as well as the tabs, it doesn’t say “expand” somewhere? On mine it’s in quite small print. I mostly use Firefox but I have Edge as well. |

Ann, it might depend on what system you are running. If you have Windows 10 click on the Notifications icon (little square box on the extreme right of the task bar). There is a slider on there to adjust the brightness. If it doesn't show immediately click on the icon, click expand and it will come up. |

Sylvia, I was already onto the brightness adjustment but only today spotted the night light adjuster - could be a game changer for me, fingers crossed (instead of eyes LOL) |

In the earlier days, there were screen covers available to reduce glare so you may find something to help you if you google screen covers. |

Thanks Names I may have found something in screen settings. Trouble is under my screen, besides the on/off button there are several others and I am scare to touch them in case they mess things up. and nowhere can I find a book for the screen which my late husband put in. |

Some computers have a button or dial at the bottom/side where you can change the brightness. |
