Sadly, children are not wanted, only babies.

And the children already born who are desperately in need of loving homes.

The NHS fund couples for IVF who have problems in conceiving ie hetrosexual couples, so a healthy pair of lesbians who "could conceive "naturally are not considered for funding and may have to pay privately.

Yes island, you are correct!!! He did it for himself although maintains he was doing a service to help others. When asked what about the ethics of incest, he replied there are bigger threats in the world to worry about.

Hes quite happy now, he has "children" and is preparing a very long xmas list. out of 57 DNA matches, he has met 47 of them.

I personally think this is all so wrong. Its messing with lives and the consequences of irresponsible actions. Supposing some of his"children" have met & married? I know this is probably unlikely, but what if they have and gone on to have their own children?

Maybe they should have left the donations as anonymous and the children conceived never told?

Names, this is their argument. It maybe the area they are in, im not sure. They believe that priority is being given to hetrosexual couples as in they have to go through less cycles of IVF before being considered for a donor.

Hang on.. the donor did the deeds because he was worried there would be no trace of him after he died??? What an ego!!! Who'd want to trace him!

I was under the impression that in Britain at least, the number of children allowed to be conceived in this way per donor is limited, to reduce the chances of getting together.

I did watch a TV programme a year or 2 back where a number of siblings born to a donor in USA got together, and found their father. At that point there were something like 25, all adults by now. They had regular get togethers with their father. They were unmistakably his, and siblings.

Just picking up on one of the points.

How does being Lesbian mean having more rounds of IVF? Don’t they know it doesn’t work every time and for some people it doesn’t work at all.

I have just been reading about a Dutchman who donated his sperm for years and finds out he possibly fathered over 1000 children.
He has had contact with a few of his"children" after the children's parents told them they were conceived with a donor sperm and then the children decided to find out who their biological father is/was.

What a situation! The man now worries that some of his"children" may meet some of the others and become involved and would that mean incest?

This article led on from one about a lesbian couple that married and wanted to have a child. They claim they are being discriminated by having to have more rounds of IVF etc than Hetrosexual couples and this would cost them far more money. But the only way for them to have children is using donor sperm. But then human life is conceived not by 2 same sex people but by male & female regardless of all the different types ie, trans, pans sexual, bi, gay etc

But if no men donated sperm anymore, then this situation wouldnt occur, would it?

I know that for many who cant conceive naturally, the chance of a donor sperm to allow someone to bear a child is a blessing but....

Now that a child has the right to trace their biological father/mother should this practice be allowed to continue or should we revert to making donors anonymous?

This Dutchman never married or had children and worried that when he died, there wouldn't be any trace of him left to remember him so that's why he donated.

Good thing or not?

Personally, its opened the biggest can of worms and like Pandora's box, now the lid is open there is no way of putting it back on..

Quite a controversial topic and I do not want to offend anyone who is gay, Bi etc who wants a child but its the consequences that are worrying!
