I decided today to take out the soap dispenser drawer of the washing machine to see if it needed a good clean. My washing machine is just over 5 years old.
Prior to buying this machine, I had been using washing powder as one did 10 years ago until the invention of pods and liquids.
I remember then taking out the drawer and oh my what an awful mess as there was loads of clogged up soap powder that had not dissolved. Took ages to clean.

So fast forward and bought new machine using laundry liquid and pods. So I was pleasantly surprised to find only a bit of liquid under the drawer and in a few corners. I took the whole thing out and washed in soapy water for 5 minutes. It came out lovely and clean.

Definitely would never go back to powder!

As for Pods thats another story. In the summer, I bought pods on offer and combined 2 containers into 1. Put on draining board next to sink along with fabric conditioner. Then one day, opened the container only to find, the heat through the kitchen window had melted half the pods!!! Oh my what a sticky mess.

However not one to be beaten, I snipped open all of the remaining pods into the container, discarding the gooey plastic. Eventually, I poured all the liquid into my existing laundry liquid and gave a good shake. It lasted ages and washing was none the wiser.

But as my storage under the kitchen sink is limited, i shall only use liquid. I firmly believe my soap dispenser drawer has thanked me for it in the long run and a lot less mess to clean.

Not just the soap dispenser thanking you, but your drains as well. That clogged up soap powder can build up and block your drain.

Oh yes, never thought of that names and now in a new house, dont want that happening here as i will be in trouble!

I had to stop using the pods because I found they were the cause of a mould smell coming from the washer dryer

Took lots and lots of different cleaners to finally get rid of the smell.Kept thinking it was gone but then opening up to put in a wash load in and it was back

Had to have the engineer in and was told the cases don’t disolve completely because most washes aren’t hot enough

I have gone back to compressed powder tablets

Also stopped using fabric softener too as the concentrate is too thick and that wasn’t
dispersing completely too

Fortunately I have a water softener so washing isn’t too hard

Dryer sheets soften towels etc

My mother in law only ever used her washing machine to spin dry the laundry, having washed it in the sink, over time the conditioner clogged up the pipes and caused an awful smell so we needed to replace all pipes because they couldn't drain, we ended up doing that more than once. :-(

II use Simply, and ALWAYS dissolve the pods completely in hot water before adding to the machine.... conditioners also clog up the capilllary lines in the machine
