Names, she was a chancer who was making money out of the supermarket, getting a new bottle and her money back on a weekly basis. They were fed up with her, but no-one wanted to tackle her becaused she caused a stink.

A lot of our ‘bingo’ wine was screw topped. Nowadays to say wine is corked actually means it is off.

I’ve never had a problem with passing wine with bits of cork in it through a sieve. Waste not, want not. :-D

Well, Maddie, I am proud to say that I once came second in a wine contest ----- (haha) --- not tasting, but the rudimentary aspects of wine - and I am not a wine lover at all.

I became the proud owner of a rather nice book on wine!

I hasten to add Joy I know beggar all about wine.

A few years back I was waiting in line for Customer Services to do a collect from the supermarket.

The lady before me was kicking off about the bottle of wine she had bought that was corked.

When the assistant asked her where the rest of the wine was, she replied it was too disgusting and poured it down the sink. So nothing left in the bottle.

The assistant was lovely and patient, and polite, and suggested she could have bought a drop back so they could send it back to Head Office to see if it was a production problem.

Well that did it, the customer started shouting and screaming and demanding to see the Manager. How dare she, etc.

The Manager duly arrived, and was told the circumstances.

'I think it unlikely Madam'

'Dont you think I know when a bottle is corked? I demand a new bottle and my money back'

'I still think it is unlikely Madam'

'Why? What makes you such an expert?'

'It is a screwtop Madam'

I expect the bar owner gave the drinker her marching orders, Tawny! After all, she had drunk most of the bottle!

I used to buy orange juice, pineapple juice and apple juice because I like OJ, and the other two juices are what my kids liked.

One day, I grew suspicious after my daughter asked for yet a third glass of apple juice - unlike her, as one was usually enough. I told her to get water if she was that thirsty but she said the apple juice was delicious, the best she'd tasted. As it was the same brand as usual, I poured myself some - it had started to ferment!

It has never happened since.

By the way, I am a bit funny with apples and apple juice. Both set my throat tingling so I avoid them. Has anyone experienced that?

It can definitely go off in the bottle. We found we had several bottles that we had either bought for an event or been given. We had great fun over the next few weeks playing wine bingo. Or ‘is it, isn’t it’.

Every bottle is still opened with some trepidation.

Maybe it had gone off in the bottle. I had never realised a new and unopened bottle could go off. I knew about opened bottles though.

A bar owner I know had a customer who purchased and drank most of a bottle of wine. The customer then approached the bar saying the wine had sherried and so she wanted another bottle.

A slightly confused owner asked the customer what they meant by sherried and the response was that the white wine had turned to Sherry in the bottle. The customer continued in the same way as red wine can be corked the white wine has sherried :-S
