Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 20 Jul 2021 11:16

Was just sitting in the armchair replying to a thread on Facebook when there was noises and a bit of a knock and whoops there was Harold the tortoise walking across the carpet

I got up pretty sharpish as she sank down and grabbed her before she could toilet on the carpet

Decided then to give her a soak in the sink before returning her to the patio

Sooo on walking out ,7 plus pound tortoise in both hands and bare footed ,I just missed stepping on a dead mouse

Darn cat ,who lately is staying out all night , had brought back yet another mouse and it was quite big for a fieldmouse

Thing is I hate them to the point of being terrified of em even if they are dead

Did a sweep up two days ago and then had to sweep up a rotting carcass of a baby one

Thank god granddaughter is coming tomorrow to take me to the hospital for my knee follow up as she will sweep this one up and put it in the garden waste bin for me

Lounge door is now firmly closed

At least it was dead! :-D :-D :-D :-D
My cats used to bring in live ones and drop them at my feet :-S

I hated it when the cats bought live things into the house. I didn’t mind the dead creature so much unless it was it bits. Yuk!

..but live ones disappear into the house, and create nests - or worse!

Many years ago, my bedroom started smelling awful. As a teenager, I wasn't too bothered, and I was going on holiday in a week anyway.
I pulled my suitcase out from under my bed - and it was a heaving mass of maggots :-0

Mickie, our (then ) cat had obviously brought in an injured mouse (injured by Mickie), let it go, where it had made it's way under my bed, onto my suitcase and died.

Had it been a baby mouse, it could have made a good pet :-)

My eldest made a school trip to London once, and found a tiny baby rat on the underground.
She brought it home, and it was the loveliest little female rat!
It was clean, friendly, and could do the odd trick.

When it died, eldest and her sister bought 'fancy' rats - bred to be pets, who, apart from being too big, were no match for the wild one! They were dirty, and dense.

We were lucky not to have mice invited in to make a home. So much so that when we moved into this house I had no idea what all those dried fruits ( ;-) ) in the larder were.

Oh there has been live ones too, and live birds

Birds I can cope with trying to catch and release

Mice though are a different thing as being field-mice are small enough to dart under even low furniture

After laying in wait and chasing em around the bee cat loses interest and goes out and leaves me to try and get it to run out open doors

Last year I had a mesh screen made so I can have the casement door open but cat and tortoise can’t get in

I have patio doors too so can get in and out and check cat has no presents before letting him in

Mine is a sixties house with lounge at back of house and kitchen in the front

Just around the corner from the estate is open countryside

Well it was open but new houses are being built on what was several orchards

Puzzles me how they get planning on what was green field land :-(

Soo cat was out again last night

Came in a bit damp from a shower

Tortoise has been in her house for a few days as the temperature dropped and she doesn’t want to eat or wander

Looked out and tort was out so put some food out only to see yet another dead mouse carcass that was mutilating !

Bee cat!!

So eyes averted have had to sweep up and drop in garden waste bin

Can’t have tort walking near a dead mouse :-0

Have had to take a brush and. Plastic container I was going to recycle and eyes averted sweep dead mouse up to put in garden refuse bin

Tbh I don’t want my tort to be open to any infections .she is over 60 years old and been with us since 1968
