No need to fork out for a FMP sub. |

Sue, if you don't have access to FMP's 1939 Register send me a PM with the address and I'll take a look at the maps for you :-) |

Have you looked at the 1939 Register, Sue? FMP have maps and it might help to pinpoint better where it is and as Sylvia suggests find a local landmark :-) |

Can you find old maps of the village/area, and see if you can find the cottage and its name, say in 1901 or 1911? Or the name of a pub or bigger house nearby? |

If you use fmp, they have recently added 'census addresses' to their searches. Just click on 'search' at the top of the page, and on the drop down menu 'census addresses' is the last option. Click on that. |

Thanks Belle - I tried that and did get into the village but there weren't many road names, just variously named cottages. Now there is a road name and a house number where my friend lives but suspect that, like the little village I live in, the roads just didn't have names in years gone by which makes it impossible to say which cottage it was. |

Sue, I think you put the town & county in the Lived in section. Then the street/road in quotes in the Keyword section. |

I am trying to help a friend who has moved to a old house as she would love to know who used to live there. I'm sure it is possible to search the censuses and electoral registers on Ancestry by putting in the address, but can't remember how to do it. |
