Agree, RTR, 'Farmers are in a terrible fix' - who sold off labourer's cottages, at a ridiculous price, as second homes, because, apparently, labourers would no longer be required with the increase of mechanisation?

Same's happening in the hospitality industry - just look at the tantrums thrown by Tim Martin (Wetherspoons)

For the millions of UK residents who just want to see their family and do what they can to keep their businesses alive and maintain their property ( Covid + brexit ) has become a Groundhog Day nightmare.

It is all very well going for a beach holiday in Portugal ( was green ) or to watch soccer but there are lots of other foreigners in Protugal including many Brazilians ( flashing red ). Tests / isolation ( own house not a hotel etc ) are not much of a protection as the advance of Delta has shown.

So far this year bears an uncanny resemblance to last year with "R" over 1.0. Hey nonny hi nonny let's open up eat for victory, the schools, airports and anything else now closed such as theatres and clubs and Euro soccer..

The vaccination programme has given us a slender rope bridge to safety. There are still hundreds of millions of adults not yet vacc. against Delta which is quite happy to attack younger people.

Most Brits may be unaware that in any case most of Europe/USA is not in any case open to Brit travellers. They will soon be aware that thanks to covid + brexit our farmers are in a terrible fix.

And I'm telling myself I'm gonna be alright
But I ride by night and I travel in fear
That in this darkness we will disappear '

Do you ever get the impression that they make up their own rules to suit themselves?

One law for the rich, another for the poor. It smacks of discrimination against those too poor to afford daily tests .

Who knew the incubation time could be halved if you forked out for daily covid tests?

That’s what it amounts to as far as I can see. :-S

That’s it. I didn’t know it was a pilot scheme.

Michael Gove was in Portugal for the football match, but, apparently, he didn't need to isolate on his return, and, after receiving a covid alert, instead of self-isolating, he will 'take daily Covid tests as part of a pilot scheme designed to measure testing effectiveness.'
Well who's a lucky bunny? Other returning fans haven't been so lucky.

That seems wrong to me, names! Does it to you?

If the virus needs ten days’ clearance, money won’t half that time.

Gobsmacked at the idiocy of that piece of thinking. :-| :-0 :-S

I think you can pay for a lot more testing to reduce the isolation time - but don’t quote me on that :-D

I think you’re right, names.

I thought quarantine was ten days for all returning from overseas trips but on our news, one guy said he was going to carry on with his holiday (Portugal) because he could easily quarantine for five days when he returns to the UK. :-S

I think those with the job of checking up on those supposed to isolate at home on returning to the UK will be very busy over the next few weeks.

I Wouldn’t venture abroad even if I could

Why put yourself and others at risk

Even though I have had both jabs I am still staying close to home

It’s nice at the moment to get hugs from family I haven’t seen in over a year

It’s been on the cards for two years for me to visit my sister in Canada and to go on a Hawaiian cruise whilst there but we have postponed it twice and it’s still up in the air if and when it may happen

Looks as though Portugal is being moved onto the Amber list.

Glad I’m still stuck at home.
