I didn't realise this was an eye op thread and thought aye up what's Sylvia on about?

I'm your gal on eye ops, seen it all. What do you want to know?

If it's cataract, it's really quick. I had my natural lens replaced when I had my retina op.
As I lay waiting the surgeon said 'I've replaced your lens now I'm going to re-attach your retina'. I was completely unaware of the lens being whipped out and replaced and only aware of the major stuff because he kept resting his hand on my nose :-0

Of course, now I have had time to think about it, I expect my own operation will be carried out by a dung-beetle!

NO!!!!

He used a light similar to the one that dentists use, looks a bit like a bow tie .......

but the after-image to my hazy brain looked like a large purple butterfly

Sharron

Sharron Report 31 May 2021 23:37

A butterfly does the operation?!?!?!

SylviaInCanada Report 31 May 2021 22:40

What I remember is that the eye not being operated on was covered so I wouldn't be blinded by the bright light.

But I also remember how that overhead light left a big purple "butterfly" after image after he moved slightly just after taking out the cataract to get the replacement.

That after image lasted for a long time!

But oh, how fed up I was of all the eye drops pre-op, and then having to put them in myself for weeks afterwards.

I also had the second eye done only 6 weeks later, so I felt as if I had been on long time schedule of drops!!

OH refused to help put the drops in, said it was really easy.

Several years later he had to have cataracts removed, and the old so-and-so couldn't put the drops in himself, so I had to do them for him :-P

Sharron ............. in all seriousness, do remember to take a pair of sunglasses to wear on the way home. The sunlight, car headlights and even traffic lights can seem very very bright.

Also don't look at your white sheets or towels ...... they might well look grey!!

I don't remember Wend comforting and calming nerves (?) I remember her deleting the next day because she'd been a bit Brahms the night before. Those were the days when we had a laugh into the night.

Sharron

Sharron Report 31 May 2021 15:10

She would have been busily comforting us and calming our nerves.

You had better get on and do it then!
