You can request replacement containers if your container is damaged, lost or stolen. Please note if you need to replace your rubbish bin there is a charge of £50 or £70 depending on the size, recycling containers remain free of charge.

So if your bin is stolen and you don't have £60 to spare what do you do, fly tip ?

This made me look up what our council does. Damaged bins are repaired or replaced free of charge. Missing bins are replaced but there might be a charge of £36 "in some circumstances". It didn't elaborate on what those circumstances might be.

I have just looked at our council page - there is a £35 'administration fee' for replacement of bins.

We have to buy our brown bins for garden waste - collection is a paid subscription annually. If you move you can take your brown bin with you :-D :-D

i know they need to make money but this puts people in a difficult position, bins are imposed and there is no choice
so if the dustman leaves a bin on the pavement as ours do and it gets nicked i would be very angry

We are responsible for our bins, be they lost, stolen, damaged or brittle and broken through age!
Our refuse system has been privatised, we have to contact 'Biffa' (It used to be Serco)
The current cost of a bin is £31.41 including delivery.

Garden 'bins' are being introduced, at a cost of £39 a year

Makes you wonder what the Council Tax goes on, doesn't it?

Pensions have to be made up and its ratepayers who will be forced to shore up those funds.

Our council needs to collect lots of money to buy a castle, a racecourse and send out lots of useless letters, don't you know !!

Last time I requested a new bin was a couple of years ago for an elderly neighbour, just checked the council website and there still seems to be no charge.

Please don’t tell them other councils charge.

I think it is all a bit discretionary anyway.

The charge is there to stop people being reckless with their bins and finding other ues for them. One of those things they give themselves the option to carry out but do not necessarily carry out that option.

council has acknowledged email, will reply in 4 working days, lets see what they say

We don’t have bins.
We have black bin liners but because of foxes we put the bags in a bin the bin men just remove the bag so the bin is never moved away from our property.
Green waste is collected in bags which the council provide.
Recycle is collected in clear plastic bags provided free of charge.
Textiles in purple bags free of charge.
Food waste in caddy also provided free of charge.
All are collected weekly.
Judging by all your posts I think we are extremely lucky here. :-D

I have just looked ours up. Recycling and Glass recycling are free, General waste are £35 each.

We don't have textiles collected from our kerbside, Von. It's a good idea. :-)

We have a green bin for mixed recycling, a blue box for glass, a grey bin for general waste, a brown bin for garden waste and a small black bin for food waste.

If your general waste bin is open at all they won’t collect it but they will if your recycling bin is open.

We pay £25 per garden waste bin per year and the permit can move with us. It takes them 10 days to deliver a missing bin but we don’t have to pay for it.

All our bins are owned by the Council.

If a bin is stolen, you have to report the theft to the Police. Not for them to start a criminal investigation, but to obtain an incident number which is then given to the Council and a replacement bin is issued.

All bins are fitted with a bar code which is registered to a specific property so any bins which do go 'walk-about' can be quickly identified.

The bins must always stay on the assigned property even if the house is sold.
