Wow Florence, good job that you were not on your own and friend could bail you out, I am sure that you would have done the same for her. Pleased that you had a good trip. that was as good as a tonic for you wasn't it. Like you I do so appreciate the frinds who take me out. even though I can get to two towns easily by bus it is friends who take me to garden centres.

Florence61 Report 10 Nov 2023 13:21

Afternoon all.
I love garden centres Linda. Last time I was down south, dad took me to a huge centre about 20 minutes away and it was fab.

We had a lovely meal and spent hours looking at everything from plants to garden furniture and of course all the gifts and goodies.

Yesterday my friend took me out for the day which was great. organised my bag and parcel for Australia on Wednesday so she arrived and off we went. Arrived at the PO and then.....panic stations. I had left my phone on charge in the kitchen which also had my bank/credit cards in the wallet of my phone!!!! I could not believe it as usually i am so organised. Thankfully my friend said just buy everything you need and when you get home, do a bank tf to me to settle up.

What a lovely friend indeed. But I felt really embarrassed as that has never happened before. Anyway, i got to the 3 shops I needed to, went for lunch which was great and then to the big supermarket.

Have to admit, my legs were aching and very sore in the knees by 3.30pm so we wrapped up the shopping and headed home.

Haven't laughed much in ages so yesterday was more than a shopping trip, the laughter was the best medicine lol

Today, just gentle pottering and tidying up. Getting organised for the next fayre tom but a later start 11am not 9am. Everything is the boxes already. I have removed my cards from my phone wallet and put them back into my purse as what happened yesterday is not going to happen again.

Could have managed without the phone as friend had one but not without my cards!

I seeing that snow has been forecast for next week. Eeek it's jolly cold here today anyway so anything is possible.

Hope all is well with everyone looking and keep warm :-D

Dinner was very nice Florence and slimming friendly. I stayed over last night, so that I could look after Esme as her mum is on the way to London.

All is nice and quiet now as both girls are at school. I have just had a tidy up and am having a sit down before I do a bit more. OH and son are coming back mid morning and we are going to go to Harlow Carr Gardens which are just down the road. I haven’t been before, I think summer might be a better time to go, but there should be some nice autumn colours. They have a Betty's restaurant as well, so we will have lunch there. We will come back in time for Esme getting home, so we can play. I will make dinner and do bath time etc. My daughter gets back about 9.40 pm, so we can go home after that.

Lol linda. Well normally we have a microwave packet of rice between us but..... in the freezer I had 1/2 a plain naan from the local butcher. So I cut it into 4 pieces so we only actually had a small quarter each which had less carbs than the half packet of rice. The naan is very thin, not like the supermarket ones.

Enjoy your time with your son and hope the meal is lovely.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 8 Nov 2023 17:42

Florence , I laughed at your comment about eating naan instead of rice to lose weight. I do Slimming Workd of course and rice is “ free” but Naan is absolutely loaded in syns. A large plain Naan is 19 syns, a mini one is 9 syns. You are only allowed 15 syns in a day for all the naughty extras, but if you eat lots of syns, you will only lose weight slowly.
Naan has far more calories than rice

We have come to my daughter’s house, so my son can see it. She is cooking dinner and it smells nice. I have to stay over as she goes to London early tomorrow. Mt son and husband will go back to our house and come back in the morning

Hi Florence, I think there is a button on them, not "quite" sure as they are quite high & can't see the mddle bit that clearly, but will try a W stick if it happens again !
It gave us a nasty shock as well, very scary

I once got woken in similar circumstances when I was alone in the house (hubby in hospital) a loud screaming sort of racket got me out of bed sharpish but I couldn't locate the noise straight away !
Eventually I found an old FURBY toy had "woken" up but it wasn't working properly & so all it did was screech, I put it down to one of the grandchildren who had "tampered" with it that day.
Nearly had a heart attack, lol.

I was just thinking that it was much lighter for us this evening, for all it rained all morning & into the afternoon the sun came out around 2-00pm & there was still daylight at around 4-45 pm.

Joan.

Florence61 Report 8 Nov 2023 16:11

Joan, when my new fire alarm went off one night at 2am, all 3 alarms as they are linked went off together for no apparent reason. My walking stick was long enough to reach the alarm and press the button in the middle which stopped the noise.

Thankfully, it hasn't gone off since but it scared me senseless as I thought there was a fire somewhere and at that time in the morning, half asleep, I really panicked.

Do yours have a button in the middle? Is so a broom handle or a walking stick should be long enough to reach the button to switch the alarm off. We think some dust went in the little opening or a wee spider.

Well its very dark here and still raining with a few hailstones thrown in and a rumble or 2 of thunder earlier. Looks like lightening may happen so I filled and boiled the kettle.

Sweet & sour for tea with just naan bread, no rice as trying to lose weight lol.

Hi Linda, you are as busy as ever re things to be done with your house move.

We have 2 smoke alarms & had to have the 2 back up batteries replaced about 5 years ago when one of the alarms went off, we were asleep one night when suddenly the terrible screeching noise started, on checking for smoke & the like & not finding anything we thought it must be down to the battery, BUT neither of us could reach the alarm to remove the offending battery, & as it was around 3-00 AM,we could hardly send for our daughter to see to it for us.

The was no chance of getting back to sleep & so the noise went on until a more suitable time came round to get help from our daughter.
Nightmare, as there was nowhere to go in the house to shut out the horrible noise.

It has been chucking it down today, everywhere is sodden, & more leaves have come down, yesterday I had to re sweep the areas that I cleared on Tuesday, there are still some parts of the garden that haven't been touched yet, & looking from the window, they are well covered with leaves'
It's not going to be any easy task clearing them all, I need a windy day to help shift some, preferably landing in the surrounding fields, lol.

Hoping all is well with everyone,

Joan.

Florence61 Report 8 Nov 2023 13:12

Afternoon everyone.

Its wet and windy here and thank goodness I decided to go to town tomorrow!

Yesterday was a busy day with all sorts going on and I spent a chunk on the day sorting out various things to do with mums damage. A team will be going out to assess the damage "soon" as they are very busy and then I will be updated.

Had a huge amount of washing too and today have just spent the morning getting it all ironed, but all up straight now.

My xmas gifts are mounting up and hopefully can finish off some tomorrow and then Sunday will be a day of wrapping and parcelling.

We made a lovely pan of veg & lentil soup yesterday too with crusty rolls and it was very tasty. There is enough for our tea tonight and 2 rolls left over.

Linda, do you feel the world against you? Nothing ever is straightforward, its one step forward and 2 steps back isnt it. Hope the alarm battery isnt too expensive.

Joan hope you are ok as heard there was some flooding in your area. The wet leaves will be difficult to sweep up so take care.

Well off to finish off me chores and then chill later with finishing off my knitting.

I hope everyone is OK as the thread hasn’t moved for a couple of days.

We are just waiting for our son to arrive, he is staying until Saturday which will be nice as he lives in Worcestershire , so we don’t see him that often.

We are in limbo with the house move, just waiting for the legal things to progress. The survey is being done today, so hopefully that will be fine.

While we were sorting out paperwork to pass onto the new owners, we realised that the burglar alarm was well overdue a service. We have it done annually and get a discount on the house insurance because of that. Without the service, the insurance won’t be valid, so we arranged for it to be done this morning. I remember last year they said it would probably need a new battery this time and of course it did :-( To be fair it has only been replaced once in the past twenty years, but the thing could have Heldon until we left! It is a very big chunky thing, so goodness knows how much it will cost.

I am pleased you did so well with your cards Florence.

What a nuisance with the car hitting your mother’s garden, you could have fine without that. When we were selling my mother’s bungalow, water started pouring in through the garage roof, so we had to have that recovered, all expense we could have done without.

It is so cold and drizzly here, OH took some leaves off the lawn yesterday, but there are still lots on the Beech trees to come down yet. The pavement walking from my house into town is covered in wet slippery leaves. I walked on the road yesterday as it was safer than potentially falling

Aw well done to your grand daughter Joan, you must be a very proud grandmother.

I have noticed that i have new bids on my rose and have 2 new yellow ones plus the carnations are budding as well :-S

Infact all the pots including the dwarf geraniums still have plenty of foliage on them...its bonkers at this time of year. it didn't actually rain hard after all and daughter managed to get the bedding outside. Wasn't much wind but at least it smells lovely and fresh.

Joan I'm sure the leave collecting will be coming to an end soon as the trees will surely be bare soon?

I'm hoping to go over to town on Thursday with a friend and get to finish off my xmas shopping. I want to see the big coop as its recently been upgraded and see what offers they have on.

I'm having lemon sole in breadcrumbs with chips and some salad tonight as feeling quite peckish.

As for the flat Joan, it really is one thing after another and surely something will give soon and let us settle the sale once and for all.

I have just finished making 11 bags with 10 tags in each....phew! Has taken me all afternoon but a job well done and ticked off my list of jobs.

So off to have a cuppa then sort out the food.

Good afternood, & it IS a good one, the sun is out, no wind, some new buds/flowers on some of our plants, & some nice dry leaves ready for clearing up.

I have ben out & swept up some of the leaves & some leaves are waiting in little heaps ready to put into the garden sacks,.
I am planning to sweep them up after adding this reply, have take advantage of the nice day.
Still a couple of areas that are covered in leaves, but they will have to wait a bit longer.

Florence, what a terrible thing to happen, just another problem for you to have to sort out, hope it's sorted quickly for you.

Our grandaughter did really well at the netball games yesterday, & she was player of the match, she was just delighted at that.

Well I must get back outside before the daylight starts waning, hope all is well with everyone.

Good morning chit chatters.

What a weekend! The fayre was very busy and I sold quite a lot of my cards and will have to make some more gift tags for the next one. I had a super time seeing so many people and having catch ups, was a real boost for me.

Sadly daughter had been unwell with a tooth problem on the Friday and within an hour of arriving, I had to get someone to take her home!

When i got home later, she was really sick as the medicine she was given upset her stomach but by yesterday eve she had perked up and is back to normal today.

So all was well until..... my bother sent me a picture of mums front garden and driveway and oh my! A car a few days ago had at high speed somehow veered off the rd, up mums driveway, hit the wall and big gate and then rolled over the adjoining wall and landed on neighbours drive!!! Fgs, they must have been doing a speed.

Anyway brother had been away and only went round to check on things and found this. He took lots of photos etc and I sent a letter plus the pics to the Leaseholder Association. I then tel their office to explain what happened so they can get started with an insurance claim.

Honestly as my brother said, sometimes its mums way of saying" dont sell the flat."
lol So shall have to wait & see how long it will take to repair all the damage, The shed wall has a large crack in it!

Never a dull moment as they say.
Was just a few fireworks down the hill but only lasted 10 minutes and noone else had any so was fairly quiet.

Just waiting on the bin lorry and it looks very black outside. Think the heavens are about to chuck it down.

Glad all is ok with everyone JG, Joan & Linda.

I didn't have any problems getting on here Linda but hope you are sorted now?

Well off to do some "stripping" :-D :-D :-D

I feel like banging my head on the wall :-S
I haven’t been able to get onto the General Chat board all day. All the other boards and parts of the website work fine, but when I click on General Chat, it just takes me to a page of rules and regulations. I assumed it was a problem with the website, so from one of the other boards, I messaged Ann in Glos and she kindly replied to say all was well with her.
I always use Chrome as the browser on my iPad, so I tried Safari and I can get onto the board as normal. The problem is just with Chrome. Even if I go to GR by typing the site in and logging in, I still have the same problem . I have tried deleting the book mark, clearing my cookies and browsing history, restarting , everything I can think of, but it still doesn’t work. At least I can get in via Safari.

We have been touring round shops today, looking for curtains, wood flooring , blinds etc for the new house. I just can’t find any curtains which I like. :-( We found some flooring and ideas for blinds, so it wasn’t all bad. We had a nice lunch out, even as OH pointed out it wasn’t Slimming World friendly :-D

Joan, we have more fireworks already this evening I just wish people wouldn't have the loud booming ones that make me jump. The fireworks we used to buy were the pretty ones that hardly made a noise. Also they were not sold all year round like now , people round here seem to have fireworks for every occasion .

A lot of the trees around here still have a lot of green leaves on and some of the plants in our garden have flowered again. The cold snap followed by warm weather has them confused .lol. The seasons are mixed up. Here in parts of the Midlands we escaped the worst storms but we had a lot of rain this year.

hllo Ginnie & others.
It must be rather annoying hearing fireworks going off so regularly.
I thought there would have been fireworks going off last night but never heard any & it was a perfect night for fireworks & bonfires.

Even though the nearest village is some distance from us we can here any bangs but not one last night, must be all happening tonight ?
I'm not one for fireworks & we never bought any for our children, Sparklers were the only things I bought, lol.

It's dull here today & rather chilly & the ground is sooo wet after the recent rain, it's going to be a loong winter !
I cleared up another load of leaves yesterday but it wasn't easy as being soo wet many were stuck to the ground, still many covering the gravelled areas but need them to dry off a bit before I tackle them.
Not too many left on the trees thank goodness, lol.

Joan.

Good Morning all looking in.

It's a sunny Sunday here at the moment but clouds are expected later.

Last night was noisy with fireworks going off all around even though it was raining. For some reason we hear fireworks every weekend sometimes several nights in a week. Someone local lets fireworks off about 11.30 pm most evening only lasts for about 5mins or so , very weird.
We will get it again tonight I suppose , I'm glad to say our dog seems to not be bothered by them when he is inside.

Haven't done anything in the garden as it is much to wet and soggy out there.

Hope everyone is ok .

Hello to all.
It's a miserable day here today.
Rained again all night & carried on until around dinner time, it was near dark until about an hour ago so had to have the living room light on, then it suddenly brightened up but not for long, only had the light off for about 1/2 an hour but it's now back on.

With all the rain over the past 2 days/nights more leaves have come down & you would never believe that I swept up a load just 2 days ago !
They are everywhere & soaking so not going to attempt clearing them until we get some dry days, such a thankless task !

Just a simple meal for us today, hubby requested Hot Dogs for a change, so our usual Frisday home made Fish & Chips have been delayed until tomorrow, lol.

Got a bit more done on my Crosstitching, I have almost re done the area that I had to unpick recently, I didn't think I would carry on with it as I was really annoyed/upset to find my BIG mistake, but I have done such a lot of the scene it would have been wrong not to carry on with it..

I hope everyone is keeping well & those of you twho were not well recently are now fully recovered, take care.

Joan.

Well let's hope the window poles don't fit.

Completely different weather here today, this morning has been calm and sunny although only 12 degrees at the moment. Still I have been able to get out to go and collect my prescription which I had intended doing when I went to the hairdressers. I did cancel the appointment and have a replacement for the 14th. Luckily she did cut it quite short last time so it should be ok.
