Good afternoon, it is nice and sunny now.
I have just had to phone the plumber who installed our Nest thermostat in May. It is suddenly losing the settings for the date and time and won’t connect to our internet :-( I have googled the fault and tried everything to reset it, to no avail. Luckily we don’t need the heating and only have the hot water on for an hour a day. We still have an immersion heater on the hot water tank, so can use that until we can get it fixed.
We are having a quiet weekend as the girls are away. Eve has gone to London for the weekend to stay with her best friend. Her father took her and is staying with a friend . My daughter has taken Esme to Alton towers for the weekend, although they will just be in C Beebies land and not on the scary stuff. They are staying in a Premier Inn for two nights which Esme loves. She FaceTimed from the car this morning and I asked her if she had slept well. She said she hadn’t because Emma ( her doll) had woken her up seven times in the night. Luckily my daughter said that she had a really good nights sleep :-)

We were the same with meals, back in the " olden days" when I was young! Main meal at lunchtime (or dinner-time, as it was then known), and a high tea at teatime - maybe scrambled egg on toast, or some other light hot course, plus bread or scones and cake.
My habits changed when I went to uni, as the students' hostel I stayed in provided a main meal in the evening, included in the cost (ah, yes, those were the days!). Then later when I was working, it was just a sandwich or something like that at lunchtime, with the main meal in the evening.
As for jewellery, I don't have anything particularly valuable. I do have lots of chains and pendants - nothing chunky - but only ever wear two or three of them. I haven't owned ear-rings since my early 20s, when I sometimes wore clip-ons, which pinched my ears painfully. I've never had my ears pierced.
I only wear my wedding ring. My engagement ring lives in a box and hasn't seen the light of day for many years. I have a couple of dress rings which were my grandmother's, but they don't fit me.
I used to wear a watch until I retired. After that I only wore a watch if I was away from home and had to catch a train or keep an appointment. Nowadays I have a personal alarm watch which will tell me the time, but I normally keep it switched off to save having to keep charging it up every couple of days, and also to avoid making emergency calls by mistake. If I ever do need to make an emergency call (haven't so far) , it will switch on very quickly.

Oh, I couldn’t do without my all singing, all dancing Apple Watch Joan .
My mum liked jewellery as well, although she couldn’t afford much when we were little. She treated herself in her old age :-D She bought a gold bangle for me and one for my sister. She said we were to remember her whenever we wore them. I had mine on a couple of days ago and of course, I thought of her.

Argh yes, those were the days Linda, when most mams stayed at home & dads coming home at dinner time for their dinner, when life was much simpler.
I wouldn't want to eat a heavy meal as late as 6-00 never mind at 9-00, lol.
I have never hankered over jewellry, I don't even wear a watch, So very different from my mother who was very much into such things, she couldn't get enough, lol.

When I was little, we always had our main meal at lunchtime, then just sandwiches at tea time. That was the norm then, but I suppose that women didn’t work after they got married. Now most women work and men don’t come home in the middle of the day, things are different. A lot of people seem to eat very late though, if we haven’t had dinner by six, I am starving. Often when I call my brother he will be saying that he needs to make their meal and it is nearly nine pm :-S
I like wearing my necklaces and pendants in the summer when I am wearing dresses or v neck t -shirts. In the winter it is normally jeans and a fleece top, so I don’t bother then. I always wear earrings though .

Hello Linda, pleased to hear hubby is feeling much better, & now he's back to doing the painting again, no rest for the wicked as they say.
I'm not a jewellry person at all, just 2 rings to my name, my wedding ring & another that was also from hubby, it's one of those 3 rings in one, know as a Russion wedding ring, I don't have an engagement ring we never got engaged officially, we just "assumed" we woud marry each other, LOL.
We always used to have our main meal at tea-time, then when Jack became ill he would have his meal a little earlier in the afternoon, since he died I have made the change to have my main meal nearer dinner-time so that it's not too close to my bed-time supper of Porridge usually.
It just suits me better now that I am on my own.
The rain camme on this afternoon, not much thank goodness, & I gave up on the afternoon film as I had seen it before, settled for a bit of housework instead, lol.
Joan.

It is very cold here today and windy. The forecast for the weekend and the first part of next week looks very good. I have very little costume jewellery, as OH worked abroad for long periods of time, he was given daily cash allowances , but didn’t really need them, so he usually brought me jewellery. Lots of gold and white gold, many sets with matching earrings. I will have to go through it all with my daughter so she doesn’t think that it is just silver. It is a great pity that I don’t have swanky places to go to wear it all, Morrisons is a bit of a let down.
OH is feeling a lot better today, he has just been putting masking tape on the double doors between the lounge and dining room, so he can paint them. Each door has four glass panels in it and with two sides to do, that is a lot of tape. The tape is bright blue and it act looks very nice against the white of the door and the glass. I said he should leave it there :-D
I will have to make the cottage pie soon, we have our main meal in the evening, not lunchtime

Hello to all. It was a nice sunny morning but it keeps on dulling over now, it's rather sindy as well so I have been put off venturing outside. Trying to keep on top of the weedkiling but the odd showers we have had make that task difficult, such a waste of time & effort when the rain washes off the weed killer !
I am just about to have my main meal, sliced tatties once again with something ? not decided what yet, lol. I managd to get my weekly shop done yesterday, I wasn't sure about daughters foot but she is over the worst & driving is ok, thank goodness, she has some very colourful bruises on her thigh where the lid hit it when dropping down onto her toes.
So sorry to hear about Tawny & Lindas hubbys who are experiencing pain etc, I do hope they will be on the mend very soon.
Best dish up my meal before the afternoon film starts, I'm a bit late with it today but I had a phone call when preparing it so that put me back a bit.
I had a couple of off days this week mainly because of playing some of my CDs, playing our favourite songs trigger soo many memories.
Take care.
Joan.

Afternoon everyone looking in.
Did a good spring clean today and found 3 hot water bottles in daughters bedroom still full of water!! They had slipped down the end of the bed she she would have forgotten they were there. I had stripped and remade her bed when I made the discoveries..
Tawny I'm sure you can text the odd message to Mr owl just to check in with him. Hope he's feeling a bit better today.
Linda, I did have a small stand for necklaces but yes they did all seem to get tangled up. Anyway I had a declutter and some were so old, I chucked them, nothing valuable just costume. My earrings i keep in a box but don't have that many as again, I threw out loads from years ago I didn't wear anymore.
I seem to be having to dust every other day which seems a lot but the surfaces of tops and book shelves do gather the dust. Does anyone else find this?
I shredded a load of paper and receipts and did the accounts so all up straight now. So resting with a coffee looking at the news and seeing what's happening today in uk and around the world then back to my crocheting a shawl as more wool came today in the post.
Any spare sun going please as its so miserable and wet up here, really need some Vit D lol
Have a good day all

Good afternoon, well it is two minutes past twelve. I am hope that your OH will cope without you Tawny, at least you can have your phone on you for reassurance
My OH is much better today, I am going to make a cottage pie for dinner tonight as it will be easy for him to eat.
I have been sorting out my jewellery this morning. I bought a small stand to put all my necklaces on as if I can see them, I will wear them rather than just having them in a drawer out of site. The stand was too small though, so they were getting tangled up. There wasn’t a mirror in the bedroom, so I have bought a free standing full length mirror cum Jewellery cabinet on a stand. It looks very nice in the corner of the room. It has a led light all round the outside which I assumed was run from batteries, but it needs to be plugged in, so I have just ordered a usb extension lead. I have also ordered some more hooks for the inside as there are several wasted rows designed for the type of earrings which have the hooks through the ears, whereas all my earrings are the stud type. Now I can get rid of my large jewellery box and the stand which were on top of the chest of drawers. That leaves an empty space which is just crying out for a nice plant :-D

Morning all, Hoping your move goes well Sylvia and your husband feels better soon Linda. I’m working today so leaving Mr Owl on his own for the first time since he got home. I am allowed my phone on the shop floor though as long as it’s out of view of the customers so he can contact me if needed. I hope everyone has a good day whatever your plans.

I hope that everything goes well tomorrow Sylvia and that your OH settles in as well. It will be sad leaving your old house, but it is surprising how quickly you adjust to a new house. I hope your husbands pain settles down soon Tawny, moving must be very painful for him. My OH got up this mo and Sid that he was fine, but after a short while decided he wasn’t because his mouth was hurting, so he went back to bed and listened to the radio all morning. He actually hadn’t been feeling very well for a few days, very achy with a sore throat, so he probably has a bug. He did a Covid test a couple of days ago, but it was negative. He has started eating bowls of Weetabix mushed up with milk, so isn’t starving.

Afternoon all
Good to know all is progressing well Sylvia with the move. I guess, you will naturally have mixed feelings as you are leaving a place you have been living in for so long. It will take some time to adjust for both of you.
I wish you well and once you are settled, you will be able to tell us all your new stories.
Poor Mr Owl Tawny, only rest and time will heal him. As long as he has all his needs close by and the remote control oh plus a phone lol, he will be ok once you are at work.
Linda hope you eye and hubby's mouth is much better today and healing well..
My tesco order came dead on 11am which was fab as I got it all away quickly and then started on my job planned for today! i emptied the whole freezer and reorganised it so now, I can find things much more quickly. Daughter had bought a bulk amount of stir fry pork which she put into many freezer bags about 10 in all but oh, all squashed in here & there!
So i reorganised it so much better, chicken with chicken, fish in a different drawer etc and then chips & veg. i simply cannot abide it all mixed up ;-)
I have wrapped daughters birthday gifts and hid them in my wardrobe so another job off the list. i am now resting as legs were aching with a large coffee and a jam doughnut...naughty but nice lol
Not a great day, very low cloud and windy and no sun!

Good luck with your move Sylvia. Mr Owl is in a fair amount of pain despite the strong pain killers but he hopes it will start easing a little within a week. We are now planning where I put things so Mr Owl can reach them as I have work tomorrow and Saturday. I am also trying to attack one of my cats (Meg)with a pair of scissors as she has a few small knots in her fur. It will far easier if I can get them out but Meg hates me trying to find them.

Good luck with the move Sylvia. I hope your new home is comfortable for you and that you will be able to relax knowing that your OH is cared for. No doubt you will spend a lot of time with him so hopefully that will help him to adjust as well. I am sure though, as well, this day and moving will give you some sad thoughts so I wish you strength to deal with those and you know that you take happy memories with you. We will be looking forward to hearing how things go <3

Take it as easy as you can, Sylvia.
It's so good that the movers are doing all the packing, unpacking, etc, for you, as you're having a stressful enough time without that - especially in all that heat. And very good that your daughter is there to help.
Maybe next week you'll be able to relax, and settle in to your new place. Enjoy using your new kettle and toaster!
I hope your husband soon gets used to the new arrangement. It must be a huge advantage that you'll be under the same roof, as it were, even if not actually in the same rooms.

Hi everyone
Well, yesterday was D-day for OH ............ told he would be leaving the hospital around 10 am, but the Hospital Transfer didn't show up until around 1 pm. So it was almost 1:30 by the time he arrived at the new place where I was waiting for him. He was more than a little tired and confused by then.
I'd already been back to our house once by then (we're less than 5 minutes by car, but I have to get taxis both ways!) because Amazon had sent an email that a rather large parcel I'd ordered would be arriving on the 6th instead of the 8th! We got OH into his small apartment (known as a studio here, I think you'd call it a bed sitter). He has his own bathroom, a small kitchenette with fridge, and then bedroom/living area combined, although there is a small window-less room that some people turn into a cozy den. He was confused for most of the rest of the day ........ couldn't seem to understand where I was going to be. I did stay to have dinner with him after another visit to see if the parcel had been delivered (no!), then saw him up to his room and handed him over to his care-givers.
The parcel was on the doorstep when I got home, rather large for containing a kettle, toaster and a box of 2 night lights!!
Tomorrow is my D-Day ............ and I am completely exhausted, with stuff still needing to be done by the time the movers arrive at 8:30 am. Daughter and her son arrived early afternoon, and she very kindly took the car insurance (which ran out yesterday) to the agency to renew it. One of our nieces and her husband are buying our 2006 Subaru Forester as a car their daughters can learn on! Then they went to see OH for a couple of hours, before coming back to order in Japanese food, and then off to bed ............ we're 4 hours behind them so my 7 pm was 11 pm for them!
I'm hoping to get a good sleep tonight, then the next time I get on here will be from my new abode!
Hope the 2 hurt OHs are recovering nicely ........... Tawny, it must be head for your OH not to be able to drive or work.
It is hot, hot, hot here, with over 90% humidity on most days, some days it has been 100% humidity, but it isn't raining!
Take care everyone.
