Afternoon all
Sorry havent been on here for a couple of days but an awful lot to deal with.
Daughters birthday was on Tuesday and I spent all day making her a 3 tier cake plus a birthday buffet. She was away all day until 4.30 and just about managed it but she said it was delicious, all of it so well worth it.
But during the day, i wasnt feeling very well and all my bones were sore, temp up at 100 so something was brewing but I had to carry on with the birthday tea so that was quite hard.
By late evening, i did feel really awful and went to bed. Didnt sleep that well but woke up yesterday morning feeling better so was glad for that.
We got the sideboard and decided yesterday to start assembling it all together.
Now I have put loads of flatpack together without any problems but this item nearly caused me & my daughter to have a meltdown!
Screws didnt fit properly so had to make the holes bigger, some were just not the correct one. No labels on the pieces so in all what should have taken 3-5 hours with 2 people took us 9 hours and I had to do the drawers this morning as I just could not do anymore last night.
My finger joints are really sore today. Dont think i would ever have made a joiner lol
So now the grand clear up. I vacuumed the lounge and put everything back in its place and now to sort out the kitchen.
Then as its a beautiful warm sunny day....yes summer has finally arrived yay. I going outside for fresh air and sunshine.
Linda, I hope you have a fab time in Greece. My dad is off to Corfu tomorrow for 2 weeks as well.
Glad all is well with everyone

Have a a great holiday, Linda - you deserve it.
We're finally basking in sunshine here too! It looks like lasting all week (fingers crossed), so I hope to catch up on all the gardening which couldn't be done during the very wet "summer".

Good morning. We have a nice day here so far, the sun is shining & nice & calm, a wee nip in the air but not too bad. I'm hoping to venture outside & do some tidying up, something I had planned to do yesterday but didn't manage. Yesterday started out a lovely day flat calm, sunny & really warm & so my first job was to sweep the leaves from the driveway, & then did some final weedkilling of some stubborn weeds around the edge of the drive, plus shifting some mossy stuff that had settled within the cracks of the drive way blocks !!
That done I took a rest before making a start on tidying up the flower borders in the front garden, the sun was still shining & still flat calm, however not 5 minutes doing that the rain came on, but not the shower I thought it was, it absolutely chucked it down, what a deluge, it only lasted 2 or 3 minutes but everything was soo wet it stopped me from doing any more outside jobs.
Complete waste of the weedkiller & not only that the heavy rain brought down a heap of leaves which covered the drive ! Here's hoping I will mange to get something done outside today including of course sweeping up the 2nd load of leaves.
Our Swallows are still here but I'm thinking they will be on their way very soon.
Joan.

I can fully sympathise with your biting problem, Linda. My last denture (two top front teeth) was terrible - wouldn't stay in at all without fixative, and even then dislodged easily. I had to cut everything into bite-sized pieces in order to eat - or else eat soft stuff which didn't require biting.
I had to plan every day around my teeth, as the fixative only lasted a few hours. Couldn't hygienically or without embarrassment remove the denture, clean it and reapply fixative, in, for example, a café toilet.
My current denture is, sadly , because of the loss of two more teeth, one on each side, further along. But what a wonderful difference to my quality of life! I don't have to worry about it wobbling embarrassingly when I talk, or coming adrift in the middle of a meal in public. It stays in securely , doesn't need any horrible gungy fixative, and while I can't bite into a whole apple, for example, I can eat a slice of toast without having to cut it up first! Such simple pleasures!
Andysmum - when I go to Glasgow or Edinburgh I always go on that Ft William - Glasgow bus, and can clearly imagine the pair of you waiting at the bus stop! It's so convenient changing buses in Glasgow - a walk of only a few yards along the bus station, and bus staff lift luggage in and out of the hold. But as you'll know, it's essential to book in advance for the FW-Glasgow bus. I've seen too many people left standing at bus-stops because they hadn't booked and the bus was full.
Florence - today is calm and sunny, though cool. I hope it's the same with you, and that your sideboard and poly tunnel arrive when they're supposed to.
Joan - I hope you've been able to attack your shrubs by now.

I can chew at the back of my mouth, but I daren’t bite anything at all with my front teeth, not even soft things. It is still sore, but not as bad as before.
This afternoon, OH and I went out for a walk with my daughter and Eve. We did a three mile circular walk through woods and along the river bank. I think I need to buy some walking poles because it was very rough and I am starting to struggle especially on slopes. Anyway I made it, but the annoying thing was that we had planned a coffee stop , but the cafe which was supposed to be open had closed early. That was annoying as I was looking forward to cake :-(

It's pretty wild here too. OH has escaped and is flying to Greece for a fortnight's sailing. He is not as mobile as he used to be so we worked out that the best way to get to Edinburgh Airport without lots of walking with heavy luggage was to catch the Citylink bus from Fort William to Glasgow and then the bus to Edinburgh. (This also has the advantage of being free with his bus pass.) So I drove him to a bus stop on the main road along the side of Loch Lomond where it was dry and fairly sheltered from the wind.
Having put him safely on the bus I did some shopping and drove home. It started raining about half-way and got heavier the nearer I got. Since then it has been very windy and non-stop heavy rain - most unseasonal for September
Good luck with your new teeth, Linda. it sounds as though you need a liquid diet for a bit - or baby food! :-) Stuff you don't have to bite or chew.

Afternoon all from the windiest place in Britain lol!!
Just when will the gales do one fgs and its only September grrr.
So another indoor day. im getting cabin fever and running out of jobs to do just now. I had been doing a lot of family tree stuff but took a break from that today.
My new sideboard is stuck on the mainland as we have no ferries until Tuesday. Oh the joys of living on an island! :-(
So hope it calms down by the 23rd as that is when ,y poly tunnel is sipposed to be going up...weather permitting and assuming the others before me have been done as otherwise, that will put me back again.
Sorry having a moany day lol, blame it on the weather :-D :-D
Hope everyone else is ok

I have had a bridge since 1979 Ann. I was watching a men’s hockey match with OH. It was a county match and well attended, so everyone was standing on the side lines. One stupid man cleared the ball by hitting it as hard as he could straight into the crowd. The ball flew up straight into my mouth. I had to go to hospital and had fifteen stitches inside my lip. One of my front teeth at the top had to come out straight away, so I had to have a false tooth on a denture plate which I hated. I had to wait as the other front tooth next to it was loose and they needed to see if it would recover. It died so that had to come out as well. At that time the NHS would only bridge one tooth, they would only supply a denture for two teeth. That is why I ended up on Denplan because I could pay privately for a two tooth bridge. It has been replaced twice over the years, the current one has been in for at least fifteen years. It has had a crack in it for about nine months and would have been fine if I hadn’t bitten into a very hard pear :-( There isn’t any point in going for a quick appointment with my own dentist as there is nothing she could do in the short term. I need a whole new bridge and apparently they are made differently now. Mine has a metal base with the porcelain teeth stuck onto that , the new ones don’t have a metal base, so the porcelain can’t crack. It isn’t aching quite as much this morning but is still very sore. That must be the real tooth which has been filed to a point to attach the bridge to. It really was a loud crack when I bit the pear, so I hope that I haven’t rocked that tooth in its socket and damaged it. Time will tell, I hope that it us just that the nerves on that stubby tooth have been exposed where the porcelain has come off

Oh dear Linda, you must feel very disappointed. It must also affect your speaking as well and feel very uncomfortable. Is your own dentist back next week? Maybe a visit to them on Monday to find out what the soreness is caused by. How long have you had the bridge?

It is a lovely sunny day here Florence, but only fifteen degrees.
I rang the dentist at 8 am when they opened. They have a new receptionist and she wasn’t very helpful. She wanted to have me wait until next Tuesday for an appointment, but I wasn’t having that. I pay for Denplan and they have an emergency service, so as my own dentist wasn’t in today she went to speak to the other one. He agreed to see me this morning for ten minutes. When I went in, I had the remains of my broken tooth in a plastic bag. When he saw it, he hadn’t realised that the whole tooth front had fallen off, just leaving the metal frame behind it . He said that it will mean a whole new bridge, but that will take a couple of weeks to make. In the meantime he used some white stuff to try and build up the front of the tooth, but wasn’t hopeful about it staying on. It looks much better, but he warned me not to bite on it. I have just had some lunch and think that some of it has fallen off already :-(. The worst thing is that it is very sore. He said that it shouldn’t be, so that will need investigating before the new bridge is made. Not being able to bite is going to be very difficult. I am cutting the food up into very small bits and putting it to the back of my mouth to chew. I have an appointment for when I get back from holiday to have the preparatory work done, so I will be like this for a month at least

Afternoon everyone
Linda, oh my what an unfortunate thing to happen and also just before you are going away. I hope you get into the dentist today to see if they can do something for you before you go away.
Where about's in Greece are you off to? My father is away to Corfu on 21st Sep for 2 weeks. He goes at the end of the season as its quieter with less tourists and not so hot. But he does stay in a small village not in the busy town on Corfu.
Its a grey and overcast day and quite still!. hmmm hate it when it goes like this as usually a gale follows behind it. I know Hurricane Francine is in the USA just now, so likely we will get the tail end of that.
A few more parcels arrived for me today so my xmas shopping is well on the way to being finished.
Gosh, I got a fright just now as I have the lounge window open and then was a roaring noise :-S :-S i looked up to see my plants moving about and the wind out of nowhere has become very gusty!! obviously spoke too soon.. It is also very cold outside as i found out when I nipped to the bin wearing a thinnish cardie. I didnt hang outside for very long.
Right off to get a sandwich for lunch and looking forward to a chicken breast supper for tea as daughter is in town....yummy.
Hope all is well with you all

Bother, bother, bother and lots more words of a much stronger type. I was just eating a pear when there was a horrendous crack and the whole front of my two top teeth in the middle has fallen off. It is a bridge of two teeth. It looks horrendous because the grey metal inside is on show. The dentist is closed so I can’t do anything until the morning. The worst thing is that we are going to Greece on Wednesday for two weeks . They will have to take the old bridge off and take an impression and make a new bridge. The lab work will take some time, so I can’t see that happening before Tuesday. :-( :-( :-( :-(

It is cold here as well. We have had quite a lot of rain on and off through the day, Eve said she had hailstones at school. This week is Heritage open days, so we went to Knaresborough Castle where the sallyport was open for the first time since the lockdown. The tunnel was dug out of solid rock in the 13 th century and goes from the central grassed area of the castle to the moat. It is really large 7 ft high and 6 ft wide and was dug out of the rock by hand. It was very steep and slippery to go down, but I managed it and it was worth seeing it. There was a second tunnel going in the opposite direction, but it was filled in when a car park was built. A crying shame, but that’s what they when they didn’t value our heritage After the tunnel, we bought cakes from an excellent bakery and went to my daughters in time for Esme coming home. I got to play schools for an hour and a quarter :-( At least it kept her busy while her parents were working

Good afternoon everyone, though it's not that good re the weather. Another chilly & windy day with showers here & there, the wind is not quite as bad as yesterday but still a pain, no outside jobs done again. I was hoping to make a start on the cutting back & tidying up the shrubs etc before it gets too cold to go outside.
Florence, I know what you mean re moving the large pieces of furniture, I can actually manage the sofa (just) as it's just a 2 seater & I tip it on it's front t get behind it, not too often though.
It's my bed that's the biggest problem, a double & soo heavy, I have to get my daughter to help with that but even then it's not something I deal with very often & of course it's gets very dusty behind the headboard.
Not done much today, just hoovered through the living room the hallway & the back porch, can't be bothered with any more than that, lol.
Joan.
