That we aren't allowed to have a bonfire in our gardens anymore, I have a massive amount of paperwork I would rather burn than shred because it would take a very long time to shred.

That's why i'll miss the open fire of my old place. :-(

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 27 Feb 2021 21:14

The pile is about 2' high and all wrong certificates, photos, paperwork from various people to do with family history, my grandmother lied about where my grandfather came from that she had an affair with and my Mother as a result. Now however I am on the right track.

maggiewinchester Report 27 Feb 2021 21:47

Well done (on getting on the right track!)
Apparently, when my dad asked his mum who his dad was, her response was., 'Juarez', and she would say no more.
Did he come from Juarez, was he from a boat called Juarez, was his surname Juarez, or was she just pished? :-D

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 27 Feb 2021 21:53

Have you typed Juarez, could it be the name of a house or hospital?

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 27 Feb 2021 21:56

He could be the result of a holiday romance.

We have a garden incinerator, don't use it very often but useful for burning bills, bank statements etc that have already been shreaded along with garden rubbish, I make sure the neighbours haven't got washing out, then light it. :-)

Sharron! :-D :-D :-D

ZZzzz, dad didn't even know if he and his sister had the same father.
Dad had jet black hair, blue eyes and tanned easily - but so did his mum - it's a Cornish thing, doesn't indicate where his dad was from. I had the hair and instant tanning, (it went when my hair turned silver) but have brown eyes, like my mum.
Dad did see a particular (married) man a lot when he was small, and this man and gran lived with each other for a few years later on - well, according to newspaper reports of my gran's 'petty' offences - until he was killed in the war.

Years ago, unfortunately, after my dad had died, I was contacted by a friend of my gran's family, who knew both my gran's dad and this man (who, it transpires, were friends) - and she insisted he was my dads father!!
Haven't found a 'Juarez' link to him, though. He was born in Barrow-in-Furness, as his Cornish parents moved there due to the tin mines closing, but he came from a long Cornish heritage.

Neighbours of ours in UK burned paper they didn't want to put in the recycling. They used their BBQ.

There is a very important reason not to have bonfires. Pollution.

Many people still have them anyway.

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 28 Feb 2021 15:43

Pollution is a load of tosh in my opinion, how long has the human race been in existence with fires to cook on before ovens and the like, cooking with fat is bad for us and all the other things we are brainwashed into believing, it is all the man made items that are bad for us, anyway I'm off my soap box now for a while anyway.

Island Report 28 Feb 2021 16:41

There are far worse air polluters than domestic bonfires (money talks)

There are no laws against bonfires either, unless it causes a nuisance to others. Just be mindful of what you burn and when.

Sue

Sue Report 1 Mar 2021 13:48

Where have i said there are not worse polluters than bonfires.?

But we were discussing bonfires, not jumbo jets and all the rest of it.

ZZzz speak for yourself about being brainwashed. I suppose you dont believe in covid either.

I was merely stating an opinion, and once again some people consider that as an argument.

Enough said.

Had a BIG job with paperwork after lost hubby in 2015

We had gone onto paperless statements and we had separate bank accounts

We too paid bills by consent on who would pay which ones

So after cancelling his accounts and taking them on my name was ok this is sorted

But I had an enormous amount of paper still

Decided I needed to go through all my bills ,and my will and sort out for daughter who she should deal with when I popped off

Mine is a big file needed so she could deal with

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 1 Mar 2021 15:20

Sue, I do believe that the Coronavirus exists, the pollution thing is my opinion so please don't assume anything, we are entitled to an opinion and that is mine.
Many are brainwashed ( maybe that is a harsh word though ) but look at ads for carpet cleaners, floor cleaners and the like none of which existed a few years ago, just saying really.

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 1 Mar 2021 15:49

ZZzzz, don't burn the 'wrong certificates' as most Family History Societies will accept them and send out a list of unwanted certificates they hold in their magazines or mailing lists in case any of their members want them.

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 1 Mar 2021 16:21

JoyLouise, I don't intend to burn the wrong certificates however I have a lot of handwritten letters from people asking if we are related but alas we are not, these from people that do not have computers.

"Er Indoors" had a load of stuff to get rid of so I suggested buy an incinerator - size of old fashioned dustbin but with a chimney incorporated in the lid. Was either £20 or £25. Stuff got rid of in no time. She's found some more to do. We have elec shredder but but she's simply too much stuff to get rid of
