My father in law wouldn't do housework because he said he as old school and it was woman's work, I said which old school did Mum go to then that expected her to work full time and do all the housework while you sat and read the paper or watch the tv.

I worked full time and kept the house going

Sometimes I got resentful OH wasn’t pulling his wack but tbh he worked shifts and often did overtime shifts in between

It settled into what we both did to make the home tick over

We did work as a partnership though

Our marriage is a partnership much to two of my siblings disgust, they sit at home and do nothing while their husbands work there socks off and come home and do housework.

Responsible parenting in a morally corrupt society has never been more difficult.

My father in law was born 1920s as was my mother in law, my husband and I were born 1950s, so with respect I ask how does what you said fit in with that Dermot?

We've always shared tasks but I have to admit that because my OH does not like to sit still for long, he tends to be busier than me.

Like Shirley's OH, he worked shifts when we were first married so, if he was hungry, he had to make something. I came home to some tasty dinners (as well as not so tasty because his taste wasn't always mine). I'd always eat what was put in front of me though.

Often, he dusted and swept too and, as he thought my ironing of shirts was sub-standard, he ironed his own clothes from the time, a couple of years after marriage, I began to send his shirts to the laundry. I'm not sure whether the laundering was not good enough or the cost weighed on his mind - likely the latter!

Since lockdown our 'system' has evolved into him cleaning and me cooking dinner but even then he offers to do vegies etc., although I rarely take up his offers. I am an early bird so my breakfast is well over by the time hubby shows his face so he makes his own.

We have a nice little system going now and I am not inclined to change it. :-D
