Parts of WA, including where I live, are now in hard lockdown for five days with a six pm curfew each night for the next five days following a community spread of Covid

Not sure what will be happening to my cataract surgery which was scheduled for next Friday, but no doubt it will be postponed :-(

The announcement came at 1.00pm and by 2.00pm there was bedlam in the shops :-S

Pleased you wrote about it, Allan. I'd just replied to a pal's email - she lives in Rockingham and they are planning to travel south in their campervan on holiday for a couple of weeks.

I've emailed her in case she hasn't heard, so thank you.

Edit: Oops, I forgot she moved to Secret Harbour where she settled after her second marriage, Allan, so even closer to you, I think.

Does the restriction apply to Secret Harbour or only to those further south?

Allan

Allan Report 31 Jan 2021 11:18

Well, what can I say? Masks to be worn in public, no visitors to homes, essential movement only, and an hours exercise each day.

The latter is only for people with no gardens etc.

Bog standard for so many, but not something we have experienced for nearly a year.

Complacency rules :-(

JoyLouise

Is Secret Harbour included in the lockdown, Allan?

Allan

Allan Report 31 Jan 2021 11:22

Yes, JoyLouise

Thank you.

She'll be spitting blood because she does like to be out on the road! :-|

Allan

Allan Report 31 Jan 2021 11:33

So long as that's the only thing she's spitting ;-)

I’m sorry to hear about your surgery but I can’t help being envious of the authorities

taking rapid action to curb the spread. Here cases are still going up even in my small

village despite what our media try to tell us.

If only our government would take a leaf out of WAs book.

Allan, my pal has had two cataract operations since the March lockdown. She is over 80 and doing fine.

She told me she never felt unsafe while getting her cataracts done.

Hopefully it won't be too long a wait for you.

I'm with Von. We needed swifter action and no dithering and advice - only rules - and health put before economy.

Von

Von Report 31 Jan 2021 14:28

Joy if they’d done that in the first place our economy wouldn’t have taken such a hit.

I know people say hindsight is a wonderful thing but myself and most of my family

have been saying since day one that we should have had a stricter regime straight

away in January 2020.
I’ll stop there as this might turn into an epistle ;-) ;-)

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 31 Jan 2021 15:14

Von, my family thought the same as yours.

You will already know that my posts often turn into epistles. I just can't help myself!

Not had any official notification yet but all category 2 and 3 surgical procedures have been canned at Hospitals.

Cataract surgery is classed as category 3, procedures which can wait for at least 365 days.

Overall, no major, or even minor, impacts for us. Bot of our adult children are employed in 'essential' services so can still go to work.

I have family in Western Australia and I said to a cousin that then UK government should have done what theirs is doing.

Allan

Allan Report 31 Jan 2021 22:05

Considering that there has only been the one case so far, the restrictions seem harsh; no weddings, ten people at funerals, all pubs, clubs and gyms are closed.

Masks are compulsory in public, you can leave home for essential purposes and you can leave your home for an hours exercise, no visitors to your home.

I have absolutely no problem with any of these restrictions, but the stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze me, with all the panic buying.

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 31 Jan 2021 22:25

Allan in my opinion it should have been made compulsory to wear masks etc over here, I have had to have a not so quiet word with some that think rules don't apply to them, that it is their choice and they choose not follow them, I tell them that in effect they are responsible for people dying from coronavirus.

Allan

Allan Report 31 Jan 2021 22:37

As I say I have no problem with the restrictions and from a selfish perspective they will have absolutely no effect on us

I di feel sorry though for parents with schoolchildren as the new school year was due to start today (1 Feb)
