SylviaInCanada Report 22 Dec 2020 23:17

I have hopes of seeing them this evening. It has been sunny, blue sky, clear, and cold today :-D

See you got my hopes up and then.....

Have a great Christmas Allan.

Allan

Allan Report 22 Dec 2020 20:56

It won't make any difference, Caroline, because it will be during the day and not as close ;-)

Merry Christmas to all and have a safe and Happy New Year :-D :-D

Caroline

Caroline Report 22 Dec 2020 11:28

Bet it's cloudy in 20 years too :-D

Allan

Allan Report 22 Dec 2020 03:00

Apparently it happens every twenty years, but the last time they came almost as close as this one was four hundred years ago, and the last time that it happened at night so that it was visible was eight hundred years ago.

I definitely won't be around for the next one, even if it is only twenty years from now :-D

Caroline

Caroline Report 22 Dec 2020 02:07

I think I heard 80 or so years Allan don't think I'll catch that one either :-D

Allan Report 21 Dec 2020 21:56

The event should be visible here for the next few evenings, which are all forecast to be clear :-)

We've had a dark, bleak and miserable day, all day today.

I did look out in the hope of seeing the planets, but it was still wet and cloudy.

Good to read that you had better luck, Allan.

I'll look out again this week in the hope that I might see the bright 'star' when the weather improves.

Tonight was supposed to be the best night for viewing ....................... unfortunately we have heavy rain and wet snow, so I doubt the skies will be clear enough :-|

Close to the equator is said to be the best place for the clearest brightest view of the event.

Von

Von Report 21 Dec 2020 21:13

Too cloudy here tonight Alan :-(

We did manage to see them last night and it was pretty bright. We have a lot of light

pollution here but luckily didn’t interfere too much

Apparently Christmas Eve might be a good time in uk because the weather is going to

be better. :-D :-D

Allan Report 21 Dec 2020 21:01

I watched the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn last night.

A magnificent sight, but not quite as bright as I was led to believe. The sky was perfectly clear
