Problem is, Barbara, the rules are changed day by day.
They knew new strains were developing - that's what happens with viruses, but are so determined children should go to school, and people should go to offices, no matter what tier they're in, then wonder why the virus is brought home!

There should have been proper meetings, with proper plans, for what would happen when new strains developed, instead of the last minute whaffling rubbish that's happening now.

Andysmum Report 19 Dec 2020 21:52

We had already decided to stay put, so food won't be a problem, although I don't have a freezer.

The whole of Scotland, apart from a few people in the Islands (lucky Florence) is going into tier 4 (virtual lockdown) from Boxing Day for 3 weeks. So I won't be getting my hair done for a bit and it looks as though our long overdue dental appointments will be cancelled - again!

As for the Boxing Day Sales --- nuff said! :-( :-(

Caroline Report 19 Dec 2020 21:52

Very sad indeed but as noted already hopefully worth it in the long run. We're getting new instructions on Monday expecting a full lockdown as a partial one hasn't worked for the last month. So many still think there's nothing really going on or rules don't apply to them.

Barbra Report 19 Dec 2020 21:38

If people don't do as they are advised this covid19 will kill thousands just think one Christmas and people do as asked could mean in years to come there will be good times & family get together is it worth bending the rules don't think so Barbara

Well although I am in remote scotland, i couldnt get a slot for next week. So today, i saw one frozen turkey, a medium and decided to buy it incase there are no more deliveries! So glad i bought it.

There is just me and my daughter in the same house, but i feel my mum in kent may not get any xmas dinner now as she was to visit my brother and have the dinner with them.poor mum as she doesnt have any extra food in as she didnt think she would need any xmas food shopping.

However, i would rather she be safe in her own home. im sure she will find something in the freezer to have, not the end of the world..

I do feel very sorry for those that have booked train tickets etc and now cant travel.

That's what's so annoying, Shirley - they must have had some inkling this would happen. They don't seem to realise how difficult it is to get food.
I'm lucky, my elder daughter took me to the big supermarket on Thursday, and I had every intention of being alone at Christmas.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Well I was spending Christmas with my daughter and son in law and Kieran

They live in Kent too but 30 plus miles away

Seems I am on my own now

And I haven’t got any Christmas food or can get any as there was no delivery slots available from last Sunday onwards .

Good job I do have a freezer .

Think it’s going to be barbecued pork ribs for Christmas dinner :-(

My ex (in Essex) was gong to visit our younger daughter (Sussex), then our elder daughter (Hampshire). Not sure what's happening now.

I'm staying put!

SheilaSomerset Report 19 Dec 2020 18:02

We cancelled our plans on Thursday, just my sister coming, but she lives in an area which went into Tier 3 on that day. Thought it best to postpone until we can hopefully meet up next year.

LaGooner Report 19 Dec 2020 17:30

We were supposed to be spending time with our daughter and her family as we haven't seen them for a year :-(, If you are in tier 4 no chance of any meeting up

It’s probably maintenance, it usually is over Christmas.

Can’t repeat what OH said about changing at Peterborough for Surrey. We both grew up in Surrey and are trying to work that journey out in our heads. I don’t envy your really.

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 19 Dec 2020 14:17

One thing I am aware of is that King's Cross Station is closed on 30 December as a relly of mine has a ticket to get to Surrey, and usually changes at King's X but now has to change at Peterborough.

It may be closed due to maintenance or due to something they know that we don't!

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 19 Dec 2020 14:07

I have a feeling he may say you can still see your family over the five days but only in your own area and may ban travel to other areas, even though people will have made plans to travel. Either that or he will tell us we are going straight into a lockdown after Christmas.

Boris is to hold another press conference today ( around 4).. What changes will he announce. Is this the shutting off of London and the S E? Will he be building a wall along the m25?
