WW2 American Airforce Ace who continued on in the USAF through the cold war retiring in the 70s.

The first man to go Mach 1 (speed of sound) even though it was unknown if a plane could survive it.

A test pilot who after he retired was an adviser on test pilots, also technical adviser on flight simulators.
