It is unusual for anybody to really want to know the reason why.so I am always ready for action!

Quorn started to make 'steaks' that wee far too much like real meat for me and, evidently a lot of other vegetarians, because they did not make them for long.

After all this time, I don't think I could put meat in my mouth, however, a lot of 'normal' food is constructed, using meat just as an ingredient burgers, bangers, rissoles and, of course, fishcakes and that is what everybody eats. It is just a matter of eating the same as anybody else but with slightly different protein.

I would have been upset if you had turned on me. It was actually a simple question put by someone who doesn’t understand why.
You explained your reasons well and I said so. There was nothing more to it.

Believe me, you got off lightly there!

I have heard them all and can usually turn them round on whoever asks it.

As a vegetarian, I have had years of it but now there is a big movement of veganism most of whom are just like I was, young and vehement but being far better catered fo than ever I was, I am getting flack from that direction for not being vehement enough myself.

A vegan FB group turned on me because I said I probably would not make the final step to veganism at my great age.It was hard enough becoming a vegetarian in the first place, when I was keen and didn't mind reading the ingredients on every packet or choosing between cheese salad and cheese salad if I ever ate out.

That is the most honest answer I’ve ever heard.
Although I’m not sure my question could be regarded as pseudo-logical.

Most who become vegetarians or vegans have grown up as meat eaters. We have chosen to not eat creatures that have been killed, which is a very big step fpr most.

That we choose to not have life taken or exploited on our behalf as much as possible does not mean that we did not enjoy what we ate before eschewing flesh.

I am constantly trying to replicate food I used to enjoy while following my own philosophy and, moreover, i have heard every one of those pseudo-logical arguments about this over the last forty-five years and this is more than long enough to not even consider replying to them.

Sorry Sharron, I know you are a long time vegetarian but I really do not understand why, particularly vegans, buy stuff that tastes like meat or fish.

Vegans seem not to understand that the creature first had to be killed in order to find out what it tasted like.

I don't think it tastes like anything but is more for texture although it is in brine.

I have ordered some vegan tuna now as well.

Wouldn't it depend on what the banana blossom tasted like?

Do you think a bit of chopped gherkin might work? It might be better eaten with them.

Parsley sauce with fish yes but my mum always also served it with gammon.

It's liquor with pie and mash.

I make pumpkin pie but I don't like cinnamon. I just stew it for a bit with sultanas, lemon and ginger and put it between two crusts.

I wouldn't put it in a fish cake though!

I still do roast pumpkin and it is delish.

I usee to make pumpkin scones when Dtr was at home as she and I both liked them.

Being an eternal non-waster, when my children were allowed pumpkins for halloween, I always made pumpkin pie with the innards.
With lots of cinnamon, double cream and brown sugar, it was delicious - the only way to eat pumpkin. :-D
